- Any major international, national, regional, or local newspaper
- Any major internet news service
- Any major radio news outlet

My blog post this week is inspired partly by Hank Green’s new VlogBrother’s video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mK4kBNdOAoc), and partly by watching, admittedly, too many Greens’ brothers inspired videos on YouTube.
ReplyDeleteCrashCourse: Insert Topic Here is turning three years old this month. This is astonishing to me, since I remember when Crash Course was a brand new idea in the minds of John and Hank. I remember eagerly anticipating the first episodes, and I was never disappointed. Three years later and I’m not disappointed, either—especially with the addition of several new topics such as economics, astronomy, government, and physiology.
John and Hank have (definitely not singlehandedly) changed the face of education. It’s becoming more and more mainstream for students (and teachers alike) to be able to access educational materials at their leisure—at home, at work, at school, on the toilet, etc. This is how learning and schooling will look in the future. I honestly believe that “traditional” schooling and this compartmentalized educational system that we are currently a part of is on its last leg; it won’t last too much longer. And I, for one, am kind of happy to see it go.
There is a societal perception that the teacher should be the lone expert in the room; the disseminator of information; the proprietor of knowledge. This is perpetuated by scores of years of tradition—that is how education worked in the past. And, in the past it worked well. But times have changed; the days of broadcast media are dwindling, and the “one-size-fits-all” mentality of education isn’t really accepted anymore (especially in the field of education—in society, the idea is catching on, but it’s still definitely murky).
YouTube channels such as Crash Course and Khan Academy are allowing this change to happen on a massive scale. These channels have, literally, tens of millions of views and viewers, and there are communities built upon these types of channels. And, the best part is, these channels are operated by people who love learning, and education, and teaching, and who are invested in allowing students (not just 5-18 year olds, but anyone) to learn whenever, wherever, and at the pace they learn. Education is becoming increasingly individualized.
Which makes my job interesting. Teachers today have a radically different job then they have ever had in the history of teaching. We’re being asked to teach in two different systems—on the one hand we’re bound by the traditional method (I know that the standards are moving away from the traditional style, but c’mon, you still move from class to class by a bell, you learn compartmentalized subjects, you take standardized tests, etc.), and on the other hand, we’re all studying new, student-driven methods of instruction that utilize the same concepts that John, Hank, and Sal Khan have popularized on a massive scale.
I do feel bad for students today—they are victims of the multiple personalities of schooling. Hopefully, this issue resolves itself sooner rather than later, but if you’re reading this and you’re currently in my class, don’t count on it happening in your schooling lifetime. That being said, it’s super important to never stop learning, and honestly, I think that all of you are learners, but that school isn’t necessarily doing much for your style of learning. That’s not an excuse, though—in this new era of learning, teaching, and schooling, you, the student, are counted on to have as much self-advocacy as possible. The teacher is an expert, but not the expert. Heck, all of you are experts at something. Talk to your peers, ask questions, dig deeper, and learn socially. Remember, the beauty of education and being a human is becoming less stupid together.
Mr. De Ceglie i don't know if this will count as a reply but, to tell you the truth, i like reading only the topics that interest me,and i also hate the fact that we have to write about the books we read. because i read 13 books since you gave us the independent book packet and i am still unsure about what book to write about. I really enjoy reading, but the writing is what gets me off. but no matter others may say about you Mr. Thomas De Ceglie you are the best English teacher i have had this far.
Delete8 animal misconceptions rundown
ReplyDeleteokay to tell you the truth I did not know what lemmings were and I also did not here about the game lemmings. Okay daddy long legs look like spiders and humans are fond of covering up for themselves with another lie, humans in general tend to point out other people’s mistakes then admits that they are wrong. Its really good to know that dogs see blue and every other color looks the same, because we had two dogs one whose name was cookie and the other whose name was princess, I threw a green tennis ball really far in their sight, but they couldn’t find it, at first I said they cant find it because they are stupid, but if all the colors are blended together except for blue, then they are going to have a real hard time. Yeah okay I already knew about bats, yes they do have eyes and yes they could see with them but their eyesight is poor. They cant see very good so they rely on echolocation.
I went and watched the same video you did and I have to say it was rather interesting. Most of the misconceptions I actually believed. Dogs see the color blue, Bats can see, and Daddy Long Legs don’t have fangs because they don’t produce venom. I never really researched any of these topics and I kind of feel ridiculous for believing such random answers for unknown questions.
DeleteI watched the same video as you and was very interested to learn that some of the things i thought were wrong. Like I thought that dogs could see some colors just not all of them. And i thought that daddy long legs had fangs but couldn't bite like other spiders who's fangs are to close together.

ReplyDelete“Not allowing gay marriage”
Let them get married. Gay marriage does not affect me by no means nor anybody else. But the tax money being spent to keep this in court DOES affect everyone. The ones against it are the ones that are hypocrites. There is only one judge, and that is God. Let gay people get married, file joint taxes, get divorced when it does not work out, just like everyone else. In the end, God judges us. Let's get America's jobs, unemployment, and infrastructure back on track instead of worrying about who should or should not get married.
I get what you are saying, but it sort of seems like you are just brushing of the subject of equal rights. Yes, the money being used could go to something that would support more then just homosexuals, but when does standing up for each other come first? I do thou, agree with you about not worrying about who marries who. Hopefully, more people look at this subject the way you do.
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteGay marriage shouldn't be a big deal as it is in. They're people too and its not affecting us in anyway.
DeleteGay marriage shouldn't be as big of a deal as people make it into. Honestly, I believe that everyone should have equal rights, and if they are happy and that’s the choice they want to make, then why stop them? I agree with Dane, that the money being used could be spent on something more. Finally Gabby, I agree with your closing sentence, we should worry less about whose getting married to whom, and worry more about jobs and unemployment.
DeleteGay marriage shouldn't be a big deal if they wan't to be together then let them be it's not gonna affect you in any type of way at all unless your just plain ignorant.
DeleteI agree if they're happy and it doesn't affect us then let them get married. Everyone deserves equal rights and we all need to realize that people live differently than others.
DeleteI agree that gay people should be allowed to get married, definitely in America, land of the free, home of the brave anyone? The main reason I see it not being allowed is because of religion and the history of gays being wrong and shameful. Everyone should equal rights and be able to love who ever they want no matter what sex they are. I also agree with that last statement, there are so many problem in the world that stopping the marriage and equal rights of others is a waste of time.
DeleteI agree gay people should be married in America. Gay marriage doesn't affect me in any way, so I'm satisfied with this. I believe gay marriage is just wrong, but let the people have their equal rights. If they think they should be together then why should be stop them. Let those people go though what they have to go through in their life. Maybe they might realize that gay marriage is wrong. Anyone should be able to make their own decisions in America, whether it's good or bad.
DeleteWhether we like it or not gay marriage is always going to be a big deal. Everyone has their own opinion on the situation and unfortunately that is making it harder for gays to get married. Although people have become more open minded there are still people who don’t believe in homosexual acts. A few years from now gay marriage can possibly be legal everywhere, but it being legal won’t change the opinions of close-minded people. If you truly support gay marriage and want to see a change you have to take a stand even if you’re standing alone.
DeleteFormer Navy SEAL Robert O'Neill said in an interview with “The Washington Post” that he was the one who fired the final shot to kill Osama bin Laden in 2011. O'Neill served as a SEAL for 15 years. The bin Laden raid was one mission that he did participate in. He also said that he feared that this mission would be his last.
ReplyDeleteA U.S. official confirmed that O’Neill was in the raid. National Security analyst Peter Bergen confirmed that O'Neill was one of the shooters in bin Laden's room. However, many other military officials don’t believe that O’Neill can take the credit for killing bin Laden when there were other shooters in the room that fired.
Personally, I believe that it was completely unnecessary for O’Neill to take credit for killing bin Laden. The fact that he wants the credit is crazy. Not only has he taken credit for what a team did for his or her country, but he also told Esquire magazine what had happened during the raid. O'Neill's move to go public is a violation of the unspoken military rule: Don't seek attention for your service. Not to discredit what this man has done for our country, but he took this in the complete wrong direction.
I do not think that it is all right for O’Neill to take credit for shooting Bin Laden because the whole team played a role in the raid. Since he broke the unspoken military rule to get credit, I think that he deserves some sort of punishment for it. His role was important but it was just a small part of a very big mission. His comments are completely unnecessary and selfish. Many people served a role in the raid and many people deserve credit, not just him.
DeleteI agree that he should not have taken the credit since he would not have been able to do that at all by himself. Because without his team and their help he would have never been able to get close to Bin Laden. I just don't think it is right for him to make a claim that he cannot prove and did not happen entirely because of him. But i do believe that he was a part in what happened and he was important but i don't think he deserves all the credit.
DeleteI think it was wrong of O'Neill to take all of the credit for the death of Osama Bin Laden. That was a team working effort that required patience and perfect timing. When the first helicopter went down that made the process even harder knowing that Osama now knew that they were there. When they went through the rooms they all had to work as a team to make sure everyone got out alright. So i believe that they all where the ones who killed him not just one person.
DeleteI personally disagree with his need to go public. Most of the males and some of the females on both sides of my family have served in the military and i know that none of them could even imagine doing something like that. I strongly believe that since he was in the SEALs for so long he definitely shouldn't have broken the unspoken military rule. The need for fame in this world honestly disgusts me.
DeleteDeSean Jackson reaches out to Utah WR who dropped ball before scoring
ReplyDeleteI love watching football no matter if it's High School, College or the NFL. It seems that within the past 5-10 years too many players have forgotten that this is a team sport. They're too interested in being the hero and celebrating for doing something on the field that they should be doing anyways. How many times have you seen an offensive fumble and a defensive player tries to pick it up and run instead of falling on it, only to lose it back to the offense again. We have plenty of heroes, they're in the Army, Air Force, Navy and Marines, just play ball and remember that you're part of a team. If you do this, maybe you can walk off the field with your heads high even in a loss.
I agree with you about already having hero’s here in the United States. I also heard and seen this specific play your referring to when he drops the ball inches before entering the end zone, I bet he wont make that mistake twice either, The game of football has changed dramatically and I understand what you mean when you say they are more worried about celebrating and being a hero than what’s best for the team
DeleteI also agree we have many heroes in the U.S. You should do what's best for your team, not just yourself. A team that works together wins together. Sometimes it can be better not to try to be the hero for the benefit of your team.
DeleteI also agree with you.Instead of trying to be the hero be a team player surround yourself around with your teammates that's what football is about. If everyone could be an hero and win games then they wouldn't need a team.

ReplyDeleteTwo more states legalize marijuana on November 4th.Voters Oregon, Alaska, and Washington vote on marijuana legalization had ballot similar to those that passed in Colorado and Washington two years ago. In all three, voters approve them. Oregon's law which passed by 54%, plans to create a commercial regulatory system for the distribution and sale of marijuana, like Washington and Colorado did. Alaska's new law is also the same. The measure in Washington D.C. passes with 65% of the vote. The new measure will allow anyone 21 and over to possess up to two ounces of marijuana for personal use and grow but, no more than six cannabis plants in their home. However, not every state votes in favor of marijuana. Florida voters decide against a measure to legalize the use of medical marijuana in their state. The amendment of legalization of marijuana in Florida was defeated. The measure would have guaranteed the medical use of marijuana by a patient or personal caregiver would not be subjected to criminal activity. It would not affect laws relating to non-medical use. People who were not a qualifying patient could not use it. You can not operate a vehicle while under the influence or marijuana. The vote was 42% against it and 57% for it.
I think they should just legalize it everywhere, it's not hurting anyone. It cures sickness so whats the problem with everyone voting no
DeleteI think that it is interesting that most of the U.S would vote for the legalization of marijuana. I believe that people are out of their minds; marijuana should be illegal in all states because people will always try misuse and abuse medical marijuana. Even if you aren’t qualified for personal medical marijuana, what if someone tries to buy it from someone who can have it. Then eventually more and more people abuse marijuana and the crime rate will increase.
DeleteI think marijuana is bad and should be illegal. Marijuana has a negative effect on the body and mind. Recently here in Florida people have tried to legalize Marijuana that you smoke and not the pill form. The pill form of marijuana is already legal in Florida and is being used for its intended medical use. Making marijuana for recreational use is bad and the government giving drugs to its own people is bad.
DeleteI think it should have been legalized but then again alot of people are going to try and take advantage of it. They should have told the people and made sure everybody understood that nobody would be able to take advantage of it then made this would have been passed. everybody that voted no were worried about people not using for medical use. i think people will try to take advantage of it but we need to be proven that, that will not happen first because if it is curing sicknesses this is a very good cause.
DeleteI think that marijuana should have been legalized , for patients , most people smoke marijuana to help them when they are starting to feel a lot of pain , the marijuana calms them down and helps them not have to go through so much pain. If marijuana was legal or illegal people are going to smoke it , so why not make it legal and add a tax to it. Most people voted against marijuana because it is perceived as a gateway drug
DeleteMy article this week was about a 99-year-old Superstar Seamstress: DIY Person of the Week. This woman is absolutely amazing, she’s almost 100 years old and she’s not worried about herself, she wants to do for others. She’s been sewing since she was 8 years old, that means she has known how to sew for 91 years. She makes dresses every day and sends them off, which would eventually be halfway around the world. “I feel like I’ve just been so blessed to be able to help somebody,” she says to Yahoo DIY(https://www.yahoo.com/diy/99-year-old-super-sewer-lillian-weber-diy-person-of-101709384035.html), “It helps me mentally to know I’m helping these little girls.” Her dresses have been a big help to girls all across Africa. Hopefully, she keeps going for as long as she lives.
ReplyDeleteHow interesting that she is helping other people and not worrying about her self and she is 99! I think that it is so nice to help other people and make dresses everyday. I also hope that she keeps going for as long as she lives.
DeleteA very inspirational story. It never ceases to amaze me how strong human persistence can be. I think stitching for ninety-one years would drive me insane. The most important thing is that she is happy doing what she wants. Helping people is a very noble goal and being able to help others even in the most miniscule way, makes a difference in the world as a whole.
Deleteshe's very giving, thats such a nice story.
DeleteIts nice to know that even at her age she is still giving and not worrying about herself, and not everyone would be able to have dresses so her doing this is so nice and she definitely making a difference in many girls lives by doing so.
DeleteAbout a month ago there was a school shooting at a Washington state high school. Including one from a teacher who said she was standing next to the 15-year-old gunman. Jaylen Fryberg opened fire on a group of his friends, killing four of them before taking his own life. Students who fled the scene also reported the shooting to 911, describing how they dropped to the ground or bolted from the building. Parents who received calls or texts from their children were frantic for information. One father said his son just sent a text reporting shots fired. The operator confirmed that they knew about it but could not provide any information. A food-service worker named Anne Haughian told the operator that she had just guided students out the cafeteria's side door. She said she saw a boy come in before the shots rang out, but did not see what happened next, adding "it happened so fast." Instead, she said she rushed the students out of the room to safety. I bet that these kids at the school were so scared. We should find a way to make school safer so kids will not have to be scared of incidents like this.
ReplyDeleteTruly a tragedy, but I can’t help but wonder what his side of the story was. Not that it would have justified his actions of course. But knowing his side of the story could have allowed for some insight on what was going on in his head. It might help us and others prevent this tragedy in the future. I doubt that one day he decided to grab a gun and start shooting others. Decisions like this are not lightly made.
DeleteI agree with Shane, I would want to know his side of the story is too. A lot of things like this are caused by bullying but I'm not saying that's it. I don't see why one day you would show up to school wanting to shoot and kill people.
DeleteThis story is honestly disturbing; it makes you want to think what is going on in someone’s head that would make them do such a thing. There had to be more to the story as to why he did it, but his side of the story will never be known. His side of the story however, will not fix his actions, but it will enable us to know the reasoning. I do however believe that instead of him taking lives of students, that he should of talked to an adult or someone about what was going on.
DeleteI do believe that an increase of security would have helped with preventing this situation. I think that all schools should have an increase in security then having 1 officer patrol a whole entire school campus. But I do think knowing his side of the story would have been better then having people and the officers of Washington to figure that out. For all we know he could have been bullied and couldn’t take it anymore. Or his home life wasn’t really well. Its pretty scary knowing that this is happening more often, and its also sad to think that some lives were lost in this accident. Honestly no one should have the right to take someone else’s lives just for the heck of it.
DeleteIn my opinion after reading this article i think we need to make sure security can be a little stricter and we need to make sure we keep track of where our family members are.
DeleteAdam Silver supports legalized sports gambling in New York Times op-ed
ReplyDeleteI can see how being able to bet on college games could create trouble, but I don't see the problem with allowing it for pro teams. If the biggest problem is potential fixing, think about it...the league minimum for an NBA, NFL, MLB or NHL player is around $300-400K, it would take someone betting a huge sum of money to influence a player to put a fix on, and the lower salary players wouldn't even play enough to be able to shift the point spread much. Like marijuana legalization, it would take the power away from the illegal bookmakers and sketchy betting sites in foreign countries that tons of Americans are already using.
Recently Anthony Bourdain host of Parts Unknown was pleasantly surprised about his recent trip to Iran. He saw how friendly and kind the people of Iran was. With all of the recent news and our military operations in the Middle East, this region of the world tends to seem violent, uncivilized, and hateful. When Anthony Bourdain went to Iran he told most of the people there that he was from America. Instead of replying with hate they asked him if he was enjoying the country, asked him to come over to their homes, and recommended him to try some of their favorite Iranian dishes. With this, it is shown that the people there are kind and normal people who like to fun just like us. What many people in America forget is that the people of their country are not our enemy but the terrorist groups such as ISIS and the Taliban are. This shows that under much violence and oppression the people there are very similar to us.
ReplyDeleteIts my personal opinion, that its stupid to think that it should be such a surprise. Of course they are nice. Like you said, the whole country is not our enemy and we seem to always forget and the stereotypes will forever be with us. Even in the US there is violence, but there is always some good in evil. We have gangs and we have racism wars. So no country is perfect, even ours.
DeleteThis historic landing of a spacecraft on a comet on Wednesday turned out to be of one of three landings as the ship jumped across the surface.
ReplyDeleteBecause of a thruster failure, Huston had a problem. The thruster was to press down against the comet’s surface after touching down, the European Space Agency’s Philae lander, part of the $1.75 billion Rosetta mission, bounded up more than half a mile before falling to the surface of Comet 67P again nearly two hours later, more than half a mile away. A considerable distance across a comet that is only 2.5 miles wide.
Philae then bounced again, less high, and landed with only two of its three legs on the surface, leaning against a boulder, or a wall of rock or perhaps a small crater.
“We are almost vertical, one foot probably in the open air — open space. I’m sorry, there is no air around,” Jean-Pierre Bibring, the lead lander scientist, said at a news conference on Thursday.
In the skewed position, Philae’s solar panels began to generate much less power than had been planned, and when its batteries drain in a couple of days, it might not be able to recharge. As the comet rotates once every 12 hours, the lander will receive only about 1.5 hours of sunlight instead of the anticipated six to seven hours.
Despite the bumpy landing, Philae remained in contact with the Rosetta orbiter and performed its initial set of observations, including photographs of a cliff above the spacecraft.
Stephan Ulamec, the lander’s manager, said he was reluctant to do anything requiring mechanical movement as that might tip Philae onto its back. “We need to be very careful about deploying instruments,” he said.
Later in the day, however, scientists announced via Twitter that they would proceed with plans to use Philae’s MUPUS instrument (short for Multipurpose Sensors for Surface and Subsurface Science), who’s goal is to hammer a 14-inch-long hollow rod into the comet to measure properties including temperature, density and solidity.
“We will deploy the Mupus penetrator for 2/3 of the max length and then insert it,” the post said. “Should happen before midnight. Keep fingers crossed.”
Philae is the first spacecraft to land on a comet, a remarkable feat that will allow scientists to investigate the frozen remains from the formation of the solar system.
When the touchdown signal arrived at the spacecraft operations center in Germany, the celebrations started.
This was more than likely the best achievement since the landing on the moon, it really is an amazing accomplishment to land on a giant flying rock through space. Even though there was some difficulties it was still a successful mission but I really don’t get the reasoning behind this whole ordeal, was there a specific reason behind making this probe land on the comet? Or was it just another useless mission NASA came up with, I guess we will find out within a few years.
DeleteThe Philae probe touches down on the surface of a comet. It’s the first time a soft landing has been achieved on a comet. Led by ESA, scientists hope to learn more about the composition of comets and how they interact with the solar wind. The probe separated from the mother ship Rosetta at around 3:30 a.m. ET to begin its 7-hour descent. The probe has spent 10 years fixed to the side of the Rosetta. Once it was released, it could not be steered. To land the probe onto the comet, the Rosetta had to be in the right position to allow the craft to “free fall” on the correct trajectory to the chosen landing site. The Philae weighs in at 220 pounds and is the size of a washing machine. The Philae fired two harpoons from its legs and screws on each of the three feet at touchdown to help it attach to the comet. Philae also carries a drill that can drive 20 centimeters into the comet and deliver material to its on-board ovens for testing. I thought this was an interesting story because it is the first time that a probe has landed on a comet and it will give us lots of new information.
ReplyDeleteI think this is great new achievement. This space probe that landed on the comet is going to advance science. This probe landing there is going to make great new opportunities for learning.
DeleteBefore Washington’s football game in Minnesota, thousands gathered outside the TCF stadium to tell the team to quit using ‘Redskins’ as its name. The crowd included Native American’s, a member of congress, and the mayor of Minneapolis. Police estimated the crowd went up to 3,200 people. In the super bowl of 1992 a crowd showed up to protest for the same reason. Native American’s believe the name of the team is racist. Minnesota has been a hotbed for protests against the teams name and mascot, but lately more and more people have been protesting against the name and demand it be changed. The University of Minnesota’s president wrote a letter to the team’s president and asked that they don’t wear anything with the logo or team name on it, the team wore it anyway. Should the teams name be changed or do you think it is fine the way it is?
ReplyDeleteYes i heard about the name Redskins being a problem for some. I can understand how it may be offense to some, but it's been around so long if you'd change the name then the team wouldn't be the same. it should be something the team and organization and along with the people to discuss this further.
DeleteI understand them because if they the NFL made a team the dirty Cubans or something degrading the hispanics then i know the Hispanics they would be complaining the whole time, until the team name was changed. so yeah i understand the native americans.
DeleteI understand that they might be offended by the name and if i was native american i might be to.But, it is not like the team is trying to be racial with having the name and the native american mascot. So i believe the people shouldn't be mad and its not like the redskins are horrible so at least they rep native americans good. Also, having that image might inspire kid to learn more about native americans.
DeleteI think that the name of the team should be changed. The term "Redskins" is a derogatory term meant to make people of Native American descent feel like lesser people. That is not ok. It's reminiscent of the conversations we've been having in class about racism these past couple of weeks. The owner of the team stated that he's keeping the name because it "honors the spirit of the Indians," but that's the same thing as a Confederate sympathizer saying, "I use the N word to honor the bravery of the slaves."
DeleteI do not think that the name of the team should be changed. Although people may take offense to it, many people don't and I do not think that the intentions of the team name is to offend Native Americans. The name of this team has been in the NFL for a long time and is well known, if it were to change it would be weird. I think it would be different if the name of the team was created to specifically attack Native Americans but that is not at all the case. Maybe the team name will encourage people to want to know more about actual "RedSkins" or Native Americans.

ReplyDeleteSecret US spy program targeted Americans' cellphones
They are saying that they have been scooping up information from cellphones through fake communications towers deployed on airplanes.
The technology in the two-foot-square device enables investigators to scoop data from tens of thousands of cellphones in a single flight, collecting their identifying information and general location. This has been going on since 2007, The official said discussion of such matters would allow criminal suspects or foreign powers to determine U.S. surveillance capabilities, Basically the U.S. government justified the phone-records collection by arguing it is a minimally invasive way of searching for terrorists. This is horrible with privacy, Too many of my friends use this technology and so do I, so this information coming to light makes me feel afraid knowing that anyone could have my locations and anything else on my phone.
Wow that is very interesting; I personally don’t own a cell phone so I wouldn’t know what it is like. But I do know that it would be creepy not knowing that a CIA or FBI agent can sit at a desk with a computer and watch everything you are doing with your phone or laptop. They can go through all your texts, calls, and Internet search history. Not only is this an invasion of people’s privacy but also the U.S government has been spying on its citizens since 2007! Yes it is a quick and easy way to find terrorists, but I believe it is the wrong way.
DeleteFirst off hello MAL ☺
DeleteThis is a large invasion of privacy but once again it is the government we can not stop them from protecting are well being. What you say to be scary and worrying is also good in some cases if are phones are tracked and we get kidnapped we can be tracked and found and brought back to safety. This has its ups and downs it all depends on how you look at it.
My article is from yahoo news. I read about thin-shaming and how its effecting celebrities like Taylor Swift. For many people, they get labeled fat, smart, nerd, stupid, and some thin. Thin-shaming some people have said its to insult a person who is thin specifically because of their weight. The article was caused be a tweet made by Diplo, a DJ and now Katy Perry’s boyfriend. He had tweeted, “someone should make a kickstarter to get Taylor Swift a booty.” Diplo’s tweet had many responses, some of which included starting a petition. Diplo’s tweet however has had over 18,000 retweets. At the beginning of the article they began describing how Taylor Swift looks, they reported, “She seems to have zero-percent body fat, and legs that could be a mannequin’s.” At the end of the article they had put a quote by, Robyn Silverman, which stated, “Women’s bodies seem to be picked apart like chickens.” They then began to talk about how women’s bodies are evaluated by parts. No matter what a woman has they will still be judged based on there breasts, thighs, and legs. Women are now being taught that certain parts of your body, will determine who you are. I honestly believe that men and women should stop judging people, based on there personal appearance.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you on how men and women should stop judging people, based on their personal appearance. People do need to stop, and actually judge someone on how they act, make decisions, and their character, and not on there physical appearance. But at the same time, this is how society is now. Men and women are characterized by how they look, and not what they stand for, and for their character.
DeleteI absolutely agree with you 100% on the way people are judged today. Judgements are made on everyone everyday whether it be negative, or positive. Society has become this way so it seems normal for people to judge based on the way others look. It's not right or fair at all but that is how humans are. We will complain about being judged, but are the first ones to judge others.
DeleteI agree that men shouldn’t judge women on their looks. It’s, not only guys doing this action. Women too, judge other women as well as men on their looks. It’s what humans do. I believe us as people should judge another on there appearance along with their personality, their demeanor , how they make decisions . Not by how much money they make or how skinny or big they are. Our society Is really jacked. The people who complain about being judged are the ones who are quick to judge another.

ReplyDeleteI don’t think people are taking Global Warming seriously. I agree that many people think it’s fake. I think people should pay attention to Global Warming, as it is a very serious issue. If the polar ice caps are melting, and sea levels are rising, then that puts many places at risk of getting flooded. The burning of fossil fuels and the clearing of land needs to be reduced to prevent this from getting worse.
DeleteGlobal warming has always been something people have worried about for many years. Yes theirs evidence that shows it's clearly happening. If indeed the ice caps keep melting and then the sea levels will rise. Then yes it will cause trouble and destruction for some people.
DeletePeople need to stop hating each other. How are we supposed to live in a society where no one is acceptable? As we get older judging gets worse, from the way you look in kindergarten to the way you look in high school, I feel as if we add more things to criticize. The thigh gap trend, wrinkles, gray hair, the clothes you wear, etc. you name it; people around us have already been hating on it.
DeleteWashington (AFP) - More than 170 passengers and crew on a US cruise ship in the Pacific have contracted Norovirus, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported Sunday. The highly-contagious stomach virus infected 158 of 3,009 passengers and 14 of 1,160 crewmembers, the CDC said in an investigation report. This is the second time Princess Cruises' 3,0080-passenger "Crown Princess" has had an outbreak of Norovirus this year. More than 150 passengers caught the virus during a cruise in April. The ship has docked near Los Angeles and the cruise line is conducting a cleaning of the vessel and consulting with the CDC on sanitation procedures, the report said. A CDC health officer will board the ship to evaluate the outbreak and response Sunday. The vacation cruise ship is finishing a 28-day journey from Los Angeles to Hawaii and Tahiti. Princess Cruises told AFP the ship will undergo an "extensive deep cleaning" before it makes its next trip.
ReplyDeleteThe Crown Princess is scheduled to go to Mexico on November 29.
I watched the animal misconceptions video. It talked about the things that most people think about animals that are very wrong. First most people think that bats are blind and that is why they use echolocation but that isn't true, they can see just very poorly. Another is that daddy long legs don't even have fangs, that is because they don't need them since they don't produce venom. The last one that i'm going to write is that dogs can see color, unlike people think that all they see is grey. They see blue but other than that all the other colors get mixed together.
ReplyDeleteYa i saw that video to it just did not interest me as much as the slow mo guys. i always thought that daddy long legs were very dangerouse do to there venom but there fangs are to small and britle to penatrate human flesh.
DeleteA former baseball slugger Jose Canseco shot his finger own finger last month and claims that the part of the finger he shot fell off in a poker tournament. There’s no word yet if he one the hand of not, but he doesn’t seem to be too broken up about it. He tweeted “I put my finger in the freezer,” he wrote. “Anyone want appetizers?”
ReplyDeleteI think its kind of funny. I mean if my finger fell off I wouldn’t know what to think. The joke stems from an incident earlier this week no one else has reported independently, outside of Canseco’s tweets. It was a reattached finger after he shot his finger off and then it fell of. Personally I don’t know what to expect from this but I know its kind of weird.
Iphone vs Android: Which is better
ReplyDeleteThe argument of ‘which phone is better’ has been going on for a while but most people don’t base their arguments on facts.. The Androids lock screen includes the face recognition, which does not work in dimly lit settings and is less secure. On the other hand, the iPhones fingerprint sensor is more secure and its easier to use.
However, the Android makes a comeback when it comes to checking the time. An iPhone shows the time when you press the home or lock button. An Android hads smart covers and sensors to automatically show you the time as soon as you pull the phone out of your pocket. IPhones tend to take a lot less effort to turn to vibrate by just physically switching the button over while Android users have to turn on the phone and then hold on the power button.
However, they do tie up sometimes. With your contacts, both Androids and iPhones have perks. On an Android you can see the persons face and name, the iPhone just shows the name but it can automatically connect your contacts to Facebook and Android cannot.
Overall, the choice on who is better is completely up to your preference. Both phones have their disadvantages and their advantages.
neither are better, the companies are trying to compete against eachother so hard that they practically made the phones the exact same. same updates, same features, same look, same everything basically. now the iphone 6 and 6 plus look exactly like the andorid galaxy 5. i didnt go by which phone is better i just like the look of an iphone and the apple design.
Deletei personally think Iphones are better just because they are nicer and more user friendly, but androids are more durable and don't shatter as easy. like you said, its just preference.
DeletePersonally I think iphones are better as in looks and apps and emojis like androids don’t have but iphones do have a lot of problems with their chargers and sometimes crash and have problems. Also they are easily broken by just dropping them. Androids are more durable so both of the phones have pros and cons. Theres no real proving which one is better it’s pretty much just an opinion depending on who you ask
DeletePersonally I like iPhones better. I think the phones should not just be judged on the outsides and simple features such as the lock screen and time, but also should be judged more on the software and much more that's deeper into the phone. Overall in my opinion there is no phone that is technically better, it's all just about personal preference.
DeleteCoulrophobia or "Fear of Clowns" was one of the main news topics in CNN yesterday. It started as a way to entertain people in Facebook, Instragam, Twitter, basically in all social media interaction. A couple decided for their photography project to take pictures of a creepy clown (the man) in various locations.
ReplyDeleteSo far many witnesses have seen the clown in either at a local district mall or a highway, as usual they posted it on the internet (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) and they got thousands of likes already. The creepy clown photos went viral and it inspired people (mostly delinquents) to do the same, and it gets bad of course. Recently, there have been 20 calls (more like complaints) because of the clown, they were scaring and disturbing people on the streets. It is idiotic if you ask me, I mean why would you scare people so that you could laugh at them.
People these days are getting more underhanded, sure they make jokes but this kind of event is just taking it too far. Eventually, it will die down soon and they will move on to another interest like any other people do. What I'm concerned about is that why would people go this far just so they could be entertained, I mean its just stupid and frankly I don't get it. Is it how the victims scream? How they would cry after? I appreciate a good joke when I heard or see one, its not that I don't have a sense of humor its just that I don't like it when pranks (or even jokes) are taken too far.
I only hope that if its still going on and on in that area, the suspects would be caught and must pay for their wrongdoing, and you know what they say, "You danced with the devil, you're gonna pay the price".
Jason Heyward will play 2015 as a 25 year old, so the Cardinals get him just as he enters his prime. He can be a free agent at the end of 2015, so I suspect the Cardinals will try to sign him to a longer term deal. Shelby Miller is a year younger, and is coming off a down year. He’s young enough that it may just be the league adjusting to him, and he needs to adjust back. Walden is a good reliever, while Tyrell Jenkins has shown a degradation in his K rate as he moves up the minor league system. It looks to me like the Braves didn’t want to sign Heyward long term, so they got something for him while they could. Off-hand, the Cardinals appear to have gotten the better of the deal.
ReplyDeleteis chess a sport?
ReplyDeleteA lot of people could argue that chess is a sport or that is not a sport. There is one main way to back up how chess isn’t a sport. But, chess doesn’t require any main physical activity. You aren’t going to sweat playing chess. Chess uses more physiological than physical energy.
People that play chess are nowhere near athletes. They do no physical activity, yes there is completion but you don’t do anything else other than move plastic pieces across a board. Most chess players are overweight and out of shape any way. If you can do something else while playing the “sport” then it is not a sport. You can drink, eat, go on your phone, and other things while you play chess. Yeah, you use energy to play chess but its brain energy that you burn not physical energy. You burn almost no calories while playing. At least not as much as you would playing football, lacrosse, soccer, or even golf. All the calories you burn are burned from stress not physical activity which is what a sport is. You can still compete with a broken leg that means it’s not a sport. You can’t play lacrosse with a broken leg because it’s a real sport. The possibility of getting injured playing chess is the same percent as it would be if you were to move a fork across a table, or passing the food around the table at thanksgiving.
I think in some arguments people will try to consider chess is a sport because people have chess competitions and win things from playing .But I don’t feel as if this is a sport because technically there is no physical activity in playing chess so I agree with this article that chess isn’t a sport more of like a hobby or an activity or whatever you want to call it but I wouldn’t call it a sport
DeleteIn my Opinon it's not really a sport. While by definition it is is a sport I disagree. Just because something is competitive does not make it a sport. But just because I don't think it's not a sport doesn't mean i don't like it. It takes great mental discipline and concentration, and I have neither of the two.
Deletethere is no true definition of a sport. By me saying this opens the door to stating that in my opinion i believe it is. it is strenuous and involves smarts. It was made for people to learn war tactics so i think it has earned the label sport.
DeleteAdrian Peterson suspended without pay for the rest of the 2014-2015 season for punishing his child, does that sound like a logical reason to lose your job? I don't believe you should get punished for simply disciplining your child. But for the rest of this football season The Minnesota Vikings Running back was told he will not play and will not be paid for his time out. I Believe that the National Football League (NFL) should not be allowed to get involved in a players lifestyle and judge how they discipline their children, in no way do i think he should be getting in trouble for spanking his child with a wooden switch. If the NFL is gonna suspend him he should at least still get paid, his family is losing major income due to the NFL not minding their own business.
ReplyDeleteIf the NFL isn't going to allow him to play they should at least allow him to receive pay. He's a grown man who has a family to support and taking away his number one source of income is just rude. They could at least deduct his pay and still allow him to get a percent of his monthly income. I don't believe it is right to take away a hard working mans job based on the way he disciplines his children.
I agree Matt.Him disciplining his child is teaching his son right from wrong it wasn't as if he wanted to hurt his child that's the thing they fail to not realize. He also should be receiving money because last time i check Vikings wouldn't be nothing without Adrian Peterson. It's wrong to what there doing to that man.Not only can he not play this year but to make things worst they wan't to suspend him without pay that's dumb how else is he going to support his family.I guess they don't care about him being the best rb in the league that brings allot of money into the company.
DeleteI also agree. Like you both are saying he should get paid when he is suspended. Although he made a lot of money while he was playing so he should be fine for the time he is suspended, it is still wrong for suspending him because he was simply disciplining his child. He was suspended for the remainder of the season, without pay in November, but the suspension will not start until his appeal is over. If Peterson loses, he will miss the last three games of the Vikings' season and the first three of 2015.
DeleteWhen President Obama will announce major changes to the nation’s immigration enforcement system next week, his decision will partly be a result of a years long campaign of pressure by immigrant rights groups, which have grown from a bunch of small organization into a national Group.
ReplyDeleteA main piece of that expansion has been money. Major donations from some of the nation’s wealthiest liberal foundations, including the Ford Foundation, the Carnegie Corporation of New York, the Open Society Foundations of the financier George Soros, and the Atlantic Philanthropies. Over the past 10 years companies and families have invested more than $300 million in immigrant organizations, including many fighting for a pathway to citizenship for immigrants here illegally.
I believe that they should make a pathway for immigrants, most of the immigrants that show up in America are actually very hard working people who work to make a new life and support their family. But its hard to support your family when you can only work small jobs like Mowing lawns and construction because you're not a legal U.S citizen. I think that it should be much easier to receive a green card.
Should you use the snooze button?
ReplyDeleteThe snooze button, one of the greatest things ever created, until the alarm goes off again 10 minutes later. So do you hit it again or will that just make things worse? In a world without alarm clocks the body would wake itself up with its own “biological clock.” The body has many chemicals that not only put us to sleep but also wake us up. In the hour before you wake up your body starts preparing by rising your body temp, sleep becomes lighter and hormones such as dopamine cortisol are released witch help you start your day by giving you energy. The problem with alarms is that they usually cut these processes off by interrupting your sleep cycle. When you wake up this groggy and tired state is known as sleep inertia, and its related to what sleep stage your waking up out of. The deeper the sleep, the more potent the sleep inertia. So what I’m working up towards is that the snooze button can do more harm than good. The body may restart its sleep cycle after hitting the snooze button and entering deeper sleep stages. So instead of prepping to wake up its doing the complete opposite and going into deeper sleep, as a result the second alarm may cause you to feel even more tired. So you would be better off just setting your original alarm even later and not interrupting your sleep. What can you do to prevent this? Try making a consistent sleep schedule because the body loves predictability, so go to sleep and wake up at the same time every morning. Even on the weekends. After a few weeks your body should adapt to the timing and shouldn’t even need an alarm in the first place. If you do wake up a little tired, try and resist the snooze button, cause as the saying goes “you snooze you loose.”
I agree with you, for me my snooze button is gods gift to me and it is also a curse. Ever morning it’s a battle for me to try not to hit the snooze button and wake up. It like those 5 minuets will make me feel so much better and be the difference. untill I wake up feeling more tired then I was before then have to rush to get ready in the morning
DeleteI agree with Malik. I absolutely love the snooze button but i always end up hitting the snooze button to many times and over sleeping and being late to where ever i am going. I don't know why but i feel like my body feels so much more energetic after i get those couple extra minutes of sleep in the morning, but yet i can never fall asleep earlier. With the snooze button i always end up having to rush in the morning.
DeleteThe only problem is I snooze my alarm when I'm half asleep and Don't remember doing so. So by the time i am awake and snooze it again I have already snoozed it and makes me late. While I enjoy the extra sleep its a pain in the butt to have to sprint to the bus stop cause I Snooze my Alarm in my sleep. But who doesn't like to sleep for a couple more minutes right?
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteI agree, I do feel tired when I wake up just to snooze my alarm clock. But what I found that really helps is I place my alarm clock (not an iPhone alarm) across the room so when it sounds with its obnoxious alarm I get tired of hearing it, which means I have to literally get up from my bed and walk to the alarm clock to turn it off. I find that when I do this it makes me look at the clock, which then tells me. “ hey, you have stay up unless you want to be late for school “.
DeleteI think that almost everyone loves the snooze button, i know i do. But it defiantly makes getting out if bed harder, even though the alarm clock is for making people want to get out of bed. So honestly i think that the snooze button should be taken off the alarm clock. It just defeats the purpose of the while thing, Because it allows us to go back to sleep which is the opposite of what we need to be doing. Your going to have to get out of bed eventually so mise well get out when the original alarm goes off.

ReplyDeleteI agree with you, i think it was the right choice to let him go. If he doesn't like how he wasn't playing as much as another player talk to coach don't just walk off the field. The is disrespectful the your team and to the fans you care so much about the team. i do believe his actions were wrong and he should be punished. Blount should learn to be a team player. The game is not about one player its about everyone who works together to pull off the win or to finish strong. The move he pulled was selfish.
DeleteSlacker winds let waters warm, like a lot, off California’s coast. There has been unusually warm ocean water just off California. This has brought some very different species from far away areas. Hawaiian ono are swimming off the California coast. Green sea turtles are us ally at hoe right now off the cost of Galapagos but they were also found here floating near San Francisco. Rare changes in wind patterns this fall have caused the Pacific Ocean off California and the West Coast to warm to historic levels, drawing in warm-water species. Similar tales are turning up in Southern California, where fishermen and scientists have found Hawaiian ono. They also found tripletail, a fish species commonly found between Costa Rica and Peru, as well as other warm-water species. In August and September there were even sightings of skipjack tuna and giant sunfish off Alaska. They are following the water temperature and right now it’s odd to have warm temperature water. Scientist believes there is a small change in the atmosphere that should go away soon. Fisherman are also say to the people who live in California who go fishing to be cautious about what they catch if you have never seen that kind of of fish or animal before to send it back. They don’t want people hooking ono and selling their skin for big bucks.
ReplyDeleteSo my blog post today is about the “slow mo guys”, they are a sensational hit on YouTube were they test fun every day things and challenges and make a slow motion montage with their high definition slow motion camera. This is a great proof to what is going on and what people do for fun in their free time wile testing scientific theories as well. So the specific video I was observing today was the exploding a watermelon with rubber bands raped around it. The two main hosts of the video is Gav and Dan the idea of the video was to put as many rubber bands on the melon before it finally burst open. When it finally did blow up dew to the surface tension the rubber bands were placing on the watermelon. They would then splice and edits the video with the slow motion clips added into the actually video. When they actually finish the video it is a couple weeks of even months after they filmed it. Then finally the post it to the worldwide web on you tube for every one to laugh, learn and enjoy. So these videos are a perfect example of present time news and experiences.
ReplyDeleteI agree with that idea it makes watching videos even more enjoyable because like you said it’s been a huge sensational hit all over You tube it’s one a pretty awesome way to get some laughs and share with a friend while also being able to learn a theory that maybe not everyone knows I think that’s a fantastic thing I mean who doesn’t want to learn something while enjoying a good laugh I like it.
DeleteThe assignment is to find any article, podcast, blog or video and write how you fell about it. I don’t agree about this assignment for many reasons. To begin with most people just procrastinated the assignment until the night before. Then in class just go on twitter or other websites saying to them self’s “I will do it later “and it never get it done which then makes them have a low grade in this class. After realizing that they have a low grade in this class one of two things happen. One they just say fuck it and don’t try to bring the grade up because its “too hard” or they try to make it up but by then they best that they are going to get is a late grade. So they stay up late in the night trying to find something that they can right about but nothing really clicks with them so start to get stressed about it. They get stressed about it until they hit their breaking point and just can’t function because while they were trying to get this assignment done they forget about the rest of their classes. So now not only are they falling your class but not they are failing other classes too. So they enter this state of trying to just forget hoping that something will happen and magically their grade will go up (But it never does)
ReplyDelete
DeleteI dont agree with the assignment either. I understand its an easy assignment, but it is easily forgotten about because it is not constantly talked about in class. For example, I forgot about it, and ended up doing both October and November postings during thanksgiving break. Also, its extremely easy for students to copy other students article summaries and reword them, earning the same grade as students who took more time and effort to complete the assignment.
I agree with logan that i do not agree with this assignment because I usually end up forgetting about this assignment or putting it off to the last minute like Malik said. With the school allowing us to use our computers in school 9 times out of 10 i am usually on twitter, saying that i will do the assignment later but always forget to do it. I think that if you do the assignment though it is easy to do and bring your grade up.
DeleteI disagree to be honest, the assignment is relatively easy and only requires one post every month or so, only needing to be 200 words along with two short 75 word comments on other students posts like the one you are reading right now. I do, however, agree that this assignment may cause procrastination leading stress and giving up all together. But if you do the posts as soon as possible or even during your free time there need be only minimal worry about the grade.
DeleteI agree and disagree because yes the assignment is easy to forget about but at the same time it is easy to do. We usually get about a class period to work on it so if you just use 30 minutes of that time you can probably have it done. For the students that don’t do it in that time, its their own fault. They are the ones who are going to make it up on their own time.
DeleteI disagree because this is a relatively easy assignment I mean understand that its easy to forget. But like Ian said if its done during free time or done when assigned it makes life a lot more easier for his class
DeleteI think the assignment is good for us, not only are we getting an easy A, but we are taking time away from social media and our own personal selfish needs to learn about what is going on in the world around us. Teenagers are ignorant and all they care about are themselves, thus we have many privileges taken away from us because we don’t take the time to do anything with our lives. The fact that Mr. De Ceglie has to force us to get out of our own personal bubble and make a change in the word is sad. He truly cares about our education and the way we will live our lives as adults, just because you all are too busy smoking weed, having sex, tweeting, texting, or watching TV doesn’t mean this assignment is totally unfair, it means you all live up to the stereotypical teenager doesn’t mean I want to.
DeleteI understand your qualms with the assignment, but the issues you listed are personal problems, not problems that the assignment create. For instance, you listed procrastination as an issue--that is not something exasperated by the assignment; that is something that you need to work on yourself. Several students have commented saying similar things.
DeleteAs for my rationale concerning the assignment--it might be easy to cheat on, but those students that copy and paste (there are a few, I know, I do read these) are only hurting themselves. Ultimately, my philosophy is, you get out of my class what you put into it. There are amazing conversations occurring because of this assignment--conversations that otherwise might not be happening. Students are learning more about the world, nay, I am learning more about the world, and we're all able to discuss and flesh out our thoughts concerning those events.
We live in an infinitely complex world, this assignment serves as an outlet of discussion of those complexities. Sometimes the posts are humorous, sometimes they're sad, other times they're up-lifting. All of them serve, however, to decrease our ignorance about the world a little bit. For me, it's not about the grade; it's all about the experience and the learning.
i agree with logan and gina that this assignment is very easy but, sometimes i just feel like there is nothing to write about ( or nothing worth my time, or just not very interesting.) its difficult to focus on one topic if that topic is as boring as a slice of bread. I also think that these are redundant, because I feel like all my class talks about is something that is happening around the world, the very next day that it happens. But on the other hand i can see the importance of this assignment is to express how we feel feel about it, because everyone has an opinion. And some of them need to be heard, weather its good or bad.
DeleteI agree with this. This assignment is pretty dumb. All were doing is writing random crap on a blog no one cares about. I bet only 20% of his students actually watch the news and write a blog about it with actual information instead of things they copied of of someone else's work. most of these comments are just copied and pasted and we are learning nothing. Yes this assignment is easy but its also stupid and a waste of time.
DeleteMy article is from Vsauce, or Michael’s, video “Is your Red the same as my Red?”
ReplyDeleteAs Michael says, color is an illusion and doesn’t really exist or manifest outside, but instead is made inside our heads, so the ways I see color could be extremely different from yours, and we’d never know. Granted, there are different types of color blindness, but even then, we’d still never really know if my red is your green and my green is your blue, mostly because we were taught that these colors are named this way. This is called an Explanatory Gap, where even though we can say what it is, we can’t truly describe what it is or how it looks, like if you try to explain what colors are to someone who has been blind all their life, they’ll only find it as a foreign concept, sure you can say that red is warm and blue is cool, but would that really make any sense to them? Michael goes into it a bit further as well, giving another example as “Mary’s Room” which in short describes that there are non-physical properties and knowledge that you can gain through a conscious experience. (More Info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knowledge_argument )
Then the whole point of the video starts to take effect, which is mainly about our Curiosity, as Michael describes and uses in his video, he brings up the topic of humans teaching monkeys, and apes how to talk to us. Michael brings up a book called “Who asked the first Question?” by Joseph Jordania. In this book it mainly focuses around the fact that, these animals we had taught how to use sign language, and let them interpret it in their own specific way to fit them, has never truly asked us a question, it has always been us humans you ask them questions, this then brings up the “Theory of Mind.” This theory states that, not everything has the ability to generate the thought process we have now, a way to clearly define it is the Sally-Anne experiment where, Sally and Anne are together in the same room, Sally has a box and Anne has a Basket, Sally takes a cookie in the room and puts it in her box, she then leaves the room and Anne takes the cookie and places it inside her basket, when Sally returns she’ll check for the cookie, to us, we would obviously say that Sally would first check her box for the cookie, but given the same experiment to kids who are about the age of four, they would say that Sally would go and check Anne’s basket. This is due to the fact that the children don’t have a complete mind process yet to realize, Sally’s information is different from there’s, while we instead realize that she doesn’t know that her cookie isn’t in the box anymore. Curiosity leads to questions, and Questions leads to us just being us, being humans, letting us think and figure things out, with limited information, we try to figure out where everything is and we build up once we have a solid foundation, but for things like how you see color and how I see color can’t simply be answered just yet, which just really irritates me, like come on, I want to know what color you see as what since it might not be the same as my colors.
Current Event,
ReplyDeleteA video shows that a gym teacher was trying to drag a student into a pool. He was dragging her by her legs and was seen at a point with his had on her chest. The 14 year old girl had said multiple times “stop” “stop my top is falling down” but he responded with that’s ok and still kept trying to get her into the pool. The reason she was so opposed to get in the pool is because she had just got her hair done earlier that morning and she was going to an important event later on that day. The teacher had the option of settling the dispute academically but he chose to physically touch the student and force her in to the pool. The family of the student is currently pressing charges against the gym teacher.
The gym teacher had no right to drag the student into the pool, let alone touch her. What he should have done was contact the dean, and let him deal with her consequences, if any. I feel that the biggest consequence would be a 0% participation grade for the day. The teacher could possibly be charged with more than he’s expecting because of him telling the 14-year-old girl that it was “ok her top was falling off”.
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteYes the gym teacher definetly shouldn't have forced the student against her will violently pulling her into the pool. The girl could've stayed home from school however if this event was so important. I thing the gym teacher should be fired and charged because although she didn't want to take part in the class physically he still could've reinforced the lesson in a different way. He shouldn't have forced in the pool and definetly should have stopped when she told him to stop and that her top was falling down.
DeleteThe gym teacher shouldn't of dragged the girl nor force her in the pool just because she got her hair done and she didn't wanna get it messed up doesn't give the teacher any right to drag a student. In my opinion he wouldn't won't anyone to drag him to a poo so neither did the girl
DeleteThis is just sad that a teacher got that mad over something and decided that they had to go to that kind of level. The right thing to do was give the student a zero for not participating. If a teacher gets that mad and does things like this why is he teaching? He has no right to drag her and I'm glad that there was a video so the teacher and be charged with more then he realizes.
DeleteThis is sad. No student should ever have to go through this.
DeleteAbout four years a 13 year old boy was reported missing by his mother. He was recently found in his father and step mothers home behind a fake wall. The boys father, Gregory Jean who was 37 years old and the boys step mother Samantha Joy Davis who was 42 years old, were arrested By Clayton County Police and charged with false imprisonment, cruelty to children and obstruction. Three other people also were charged in connection with this indecent. The boy was reunited with his mother saturday morning. When the police searched the father and stepmothers house a second time the boy contacted his mother on the phone and she told the police to look behind a fake wall. Neighbors of the father claim to have seen the boy all the time. I think that it is completely crazy and insane that a father would treat his child the way he did by hiding him from his mother behind a wall. Also i think that the father should never be able to see the boy again unless the mother is there and only if the boy wants to see his father. The cops never released info on who had custody of the child before the incident.
ReplyDeleteThis is awful how his father treated him, hiding him from the police behind a fake wall. The father and his mother probably thought that they were so clever, but in the process they made his kid feel like a caged animal. There have always been so many child abductions but he is one of the lucky ones that get to go back home. He must have felt joyful to be reunited with his mom.
DeleteIt’s things like this that make me wonder what were these people thinking? Personally I would like to know more details about this story. Many questions come up when I read this post. But overall I’m glad that the mother got her son back after four years and the father and stepmother were arrested for what they’ve done. I can’t imagine living like that for four years, poor kid, caged in like an animal for so long.
DeleteI’m Sure most of you have heard of the Ferguson policeman who they did not indict for killing Michael Brown. But did you hear about the brutal Riots that followed? The riots taking Place in Ferguson Missouri are pretty bad. This whole incident and the Riots have made people question forceful police tactics against minorities and Race relations in America. It also turns out that Ferguson has a history of civil Unrest. The protests aren’t just in Ferguson either; they are happing in most major Cities of the US. Brown's death in August had sparked weeks of sometimes-violent protests. Many protesters took the ruling as a message that a black person's life was worth less than that of a white person. The Riots are so intense they had to call in the National Guard do to the immense violence and looting. There was an estimated 150 shots fired through out all the rioting. Ok so, time for my opinion on this. I don’t know whether or Not the Cop was racist or why he did it but, my only problem is the protesting. They are using violence as a response; which is messed up cause if anything they would of made a change by not using violence. Martin Luther King chose to never Use Violence in his civil rights Protests, and look at his impact. These guys are just hurting others and making it worse.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your opinion on the senseless violence. Rioting will not change the outcome of the case let alone change the opinions of actual racist people. It’s like if a riot broke out from the ruling be the cop going to jail, saying that it is racist because they believe a black person’s life is worth more then a white person’s life. The whole thing was completely unneeded, especially since the intensity of the riots was enough for 150 bullets to be fired.
DeleteI agree because no one should be shot or even killed over something that could of been prevented if he would of just talked to the boy and found out what he was doing instead on killing him. They could of kept down confusion if the officer would of just talked it out and Mike Brown would of done his time but no only that could of also lived so he can make a change in his life.
DeleteI agree with you because this senseless chaos can lead to further head injuries to the body. The riots that occurred in Ferguson was just terrible. Some people got killed to death by an angry horde of people. Many other people got shot by Security Guard because they were trying to have things their way. Personally, I think the riot started because of the death of Michael Brown. All of this pushing and shoving could result in the loss of chronic head injuries.

ReplyDeleteWomen’s Lacrosse now have to wear helmets in Florida. Its has been proven when players are wearing more protective gear they play harder and ends up there to be more injuries. Statistics show that more soccer player have more concussions the lacrosse players. If helmets come into women’s lacrosse, there better be a push for helmets in soccer (especially), field hockey, cheerleading, waterparks, and skate parks. So now that girls are going to be more aggressive because it has been proven if you put girls in pads and helmets they will be more aggressive so the whole sport of girl’s lacrosse will change because there is the possibility that they will change the rules because girl’s attitude will change. I feel that the more practical solution to their problem is to make the penalties harsher for checks to the head or aggressive swinging towards the head¬. Women will start to alter the way they check and go for the ball for fear that, if they don’t, they will be penalized worse than before.
ReplyDeleteI think that women shouldn’t have to wear helmets in lacrosse , most girls don’t get hit in the head at upper ages , girls know to catch and can keep the ball away from their head, in younger children helmets could be provided. Women in lacrosse aren’t as physical as boys , if a women is given more freedom to be physical and not injure someone they would go for it and end up hurting more people than them not having helmets .
DeleteI agree with you to a certain extent. I actually think girls lacrosse should have helmets but i don't think those other sports you listed should. I think this because this sport is very dangerous. I do not believe these other sports and dangerous enough to need helmets. Lacrosse requires a stick that is constantly being whipped around and you could easily be smacked in the face, if you're wearing a helmet your whole head will be protected.
DeleteEven though toxic spiders are genuinely feared by the population, arachnophobias can rest assured that the chance of a person dyeing from spider venom is vary low in these modern times according to livescience.com’s article “Worlds Deadliest Spiders a Toxic Myth?” The article states that there are over 40,000 species of spiders, most of them capable of producing venom but few are actually toxic to humans. Thanks to antivenin and good medical care, deaths from spider bites have steeply declined since the 1950s, according to records kept by national poison control centers. For example, Australia's funnel web spiders are probably the most toxic spiders to humans. Their bites can kill adults in 24 hours without treatment. Yet there have been no deaths from this spider sience 1981, when antivenin was developed (reported in an Australian study in 2005). Richard Vetter, an aracnologist and retired research associate at the University of California, Riverside, explains the propaganda of poisonous spiders with these quotes: "People think every spider bite is deadly, but the ones you hear about are the tragic ones," he continues. "It's like car accidents. Most car accidents are not remarkable, and most spider bites are not that big of a deal." I agree that poisonous spiders are not much to worry about. People are much more likely to die from a car wreck then from a spider bite, yet the thought seem much scarier so the phobia is valid. I’m still going to freak the flock out if I see a black widow crawling up my arm.
ReplyDeleteYou are definitely right that people are more likely to die in a car accident than from a spider bite. But just the fear of the spider itself is enough to you paranoid. There is a spider in South America near northern Brazil that is (11in) in size!!! That is almost the size of your foot. It is called the Goliath bird-eater and it has a life span of 15 to 25 years. This spider can lie up to 100-200 eggs and can release a defense of hairs on its abdomen that irritate and cause harm to the skin. I don’t know about you but spiders have always been creepy to me.

ReplyDelete“Self-beauty, it is an echo.” I came across a video that was a real eye opener, the Dove Company created this video, and it was about how young girls feel bad about themselves because of their mothers. They did an experiment where mothers wrote down physical qualities they don’t like about themselves. Their daughters also wrote down what they don’t like about themselves, at the end the mother and daughter compared the lists. The lists ended up being exactly the same. These girls were in Elementary school, not even old enough to reach puberty where that is common.
ReplyDeleteI feel that as females we need to be more comfortable in our own skin. We need to stop hating ourselves, especially in public. As you can see, it not only affects you but it affects people around you. I mean look at the whole thigh gap trend, it has caused millions of girls to become anorexic and thinking they are fat without a thigh gap. We need to stop judging each other and start bringing each other up; especially if you become a mother do you want your daughter to feel the same way you do, even if they don’t look the same way as you?
I completely agree with you, on how females need to feel more comfortable in there own skin. People do need to stop hating themselves and how it does affect the people around you also. But at the same time, many girls feel like the way they are, because of other people judging them, and telling them that they need to change in order to be beautiful. But not just girls, but boys also, need to love the skin they live in, and have confidence on how actually beautiful they are.
DeleteI am so with you on that one and I am happy that somebody actually feels the same way, we are all the same girls and boys. It seems that this a lot of young women like ourselves are trying to make a better appearance on themselves.
DeleteI agree with this. women these days believe that massive amounts of makeup will only make them beautiful, and most still don't believe there beautiful with makeup at all. Its like we have all lost respect for ourselves and if someone tells us were ugly were easy to believe it. We never feel good about ourselves, and some people go to way too far of extremes to show people that the things they say hurt. I say we stop letting other people effect our emotions and lives.
DeleteI believe that the dove video was a very inspiring video. There are plenty of views that tv gives. One being, that only skinny or really slim girls are in style. You never really see a “THICK”model. If you do she is classified as a plus size. Some “ plus sized”girls find that offence. Others can stomach it because it doesn’t bother them. I believe there should be a self esteem class for some young girls going into young women in jr & high-school.
Delete"U.S. Birth Rates Decline For 6th Year In A Row" For the sixth year in a row, the number of babies born a year has declined. The reason for this is because there have been less teen pregnancies leading to birth. However, the birth rate for older women (30 and up) have been inclining, but no enough to keep the total U.S. birthrate at a consistent level. With technology advancing, there have been less problems giving birth. The C-section rate with that is also declining. Most of these changes have been happening with Non-hispanic white women. But with black and Hispanic women, it pretty much remains unchanged. Although there are many factors that could put the birthrate at a rise, surprisingly it is still declining. I didn't think much of this but I wonder why specifically teen births are declining, and most of these changes had to do with Non-hispanic white women.
ReplyDeleteAiyanna Mo’Nay Stanley Jones was a seven-year-old girl who was shot by a man named Officer Joseph. They did not knock they busted in thinking that the man that they were looking for was in her bed in her room. When her parents clearly said my daughter is in that room he did not listen he went in and saw something move which he thought it was the suspect and he fired and shot the seven-year-old girl. The court set a date and when they went to the court and they tried everything they could do but Officer Joseph was not found guilty and her parents wonted not only justice for her child for all the other children that was shit and killed with out doing anything. In my opinion it’s the same thing as the Mike Brown case police are never held responsible for something they do and its not right cause hiding behind a badge doesn’t make them any better then the lives they are taking.
ReplyDeleteI believe it is outrageous that the police officer that had killed garner was not indicted. Due to the fact that garner pronounce dead making this event a homicide. Also, there was video evidence showing that the man had made hand gestures that he couldn’t breathe. Even before the police attempted the legal maneuver the man surrender and was no threat. The police went overboard with attempting that maneuver when there was no need to commit any harmful act upon this man. The police officer took an innocent man away from his family he was a father of six. The crime wasn’t even that bad all the man was doing was selling cigarettes illegally on the street corner. I believe the crime he committed was not enough for the police officer to attack the man. I believe the cop was low-key racist by his attempt to do his illegal choke hold method on a innocent minority when crime wasn’t even that serious all he did was sell something illegal. This event was a homicide so why wasn’t he indicted I believe this man should be serving some type of jail time. With not giving him any punishment for his actions is like letting people commit crimes but never arresting them. Also if they do not give the person a punishment for what he has done I believe they should be prepare for rioting throughout the USA. The people all they want is some justice like I want so I believe the man should have been indicted. But, that’s my opinion on this thought.
ReplyDeleteGlobal warming is a gradual increase of temperature in the earth’s atmosphere. Global warming is believed to be a permanent change to earth’s climate. Many people believe global warming is not real, but climate scientists looking at the data believe that the planet is warming. Some people view the effects of global warming to be more rapid than how other people see it. The average temperature of earth has raised .4 and .8 degrees Celsius over the past 100 years. The increased volumes of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases released by the burning of fossil fuels, land clearing, agriculture, and other human activities, are believed to be the primary sources of the global warming that has occurred over the past 50 years. Recent global warming research has predicted that the average temperature will rise 1.4 to 5.8 degrees Celsius by the year 2100. Changes resulting from global warming may include rising sea levels due to the melting of the polar ice caps, as well as an increase in occurrence and severity of storms and other weather events. You can expect a 50 percent increase of lightning strikes by the year 2100 due to a continuous increase in temperature from greenhouse gas emissions.
ReplyDeleteThe St.Louis police are making statements of a hate crime going on. Earlier a man was beaten to death by teens with a hammer. The man was Bosnian-American, a couple days later a Bosnian women was orderd to get out of her car , the men were holding a gun to her and forcing her to get out. The suspects were three African American teenagers , they allegedly said “ youre Bosnian , I should just kill you now”.
ReplyDeleteThe 26 year old Bosnian-American women who was pulled from her car was beaten and found unconscious by a passerby. This to me Is a hate crime because the people who decided to beat on the women , and the other victim, picked a certain race to pick and and in the womens case , they stated that they should of just killed her because she was Bosnian. The incident as a bias crime based on the victims account of the incident. One man said that black teens come up to cars everyday and pound on cars , one person stated that they go to victims who wont do anything , and most people are carrying weapons with them to avoid being beaten in the streets.
Here is an article that I find most astonishing I may not know much about soccer but this proves that crime doesn’t pay, even for an athlete.
ReplyDelete“Rapist footballer Ched Evans will NOT be given the chance to train with Oldham Athletic, the club has confirmed.
The League One outfit has issued a statement denying reports, which claimed they were ready to extend an invitation to the former Wales and Sheffield United striker to train with them.
The statement read: "The Board of Directors would like to confirm that we will not be extending an invitation for Ched Evans to train with Oldham Athletic nor will we be offering him a contract.
"The club will not be making any further comment on this subject."
Evans is searching for a new club following his release from prison after serving two-and-a-half years for raping a 19-year-old.
He continues to protest his innocence.
Last week it emerged that Tranmere Rovers turned down an offer to sign Evans - telling his representatives it would not fit with the club's "family-friendly" image.”
I find the article interesting because rape is considered a huge crime; many athletes have been charged have lost their respected playing time. It speaks to me because we still live in a society were psychotic people (for lack of a better word) think that rape is ok though it’s not it is not even in the slightest ok it’s disgusting and can cause both emotional and physical scars they can’t forget. It’s surprising to me because for someone so gifted in athleticism he did not know better to think before the action crossed his mind. He deserves to be charged. The Oldham Athletics Club he plays for has every right to revoke his contract and not allow him to train just stinks all the hard work to get to the professional league was a waste

ReplyDeleteIndia, known to be a peaceful place filled with the iconic views, belly dancers and unique music. But Just like every other beautiful place on earth, India is hell for women behind the scenes. Acid attacking is a brutal torture aimed towards women and the country is just now taking a stand after letting it go on for years. Rupa, a fifteen year old girl at the time had acid poured on her by her step mother over a dispute about money. Rupa states that the night this occurred the step mother just watched as she laid on the ground crying in agony. When she finally pulled herself together she stopped going to school, going out and playing and just stayed inside afraid of others seeing what had happen to her. It took her three weeks to finally bring her self to look in the mirror , she felt her dreams fall to shambles as she did.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading this on CNN I decided to do a bit more research on the topic and what I came up with was a video of a lady leaving a very powerful statement. She said “you can hurt us, you can hide us, you can take away are education and rights but you can never take are smiles”.
That statement is very true actually, and I am sure a lot of people would be saying the same thing.
DeleteMy current event is about a Curiosity Rover finding the remains of an ancient lake and peak on Mars. The findings provide that the lake is bigger than the Salt Lake and a mountain that’s higher than Mount Rainier. Scientists believe this supports the theory that Mars could sustain life. The Curiosity Rover landed on Mars over two and a half years ago. The Rover has been making its way southward toward the mountain called Mount Sharp until it came across layers of bedrock on a specific slant that resembles the pattern of a shallow river. I found this to be very interesting because I believe space is like a giant mystery with many secrets to be unlocked. Also, this proves many theories to be correct, and contributes to the idea of existing life on other planets, and promotes an even bigger question: is there other planets that are suitable for human life to exist, and could we find a new home planet? I would really like to see more rovers launched to different planets in my lifetime because I’m interested to see what other types of findings we could dig up and further our knowledge that we have on space.
ReplyDeleteCan laughing gas treat severe depression?
ReplyDeleteWashington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri, has done an experiment to find out just that. The study had 20 patients with severe depression involved, one-third of which did not respond to current therapies. It was randomized between three treatments: The active drug (the laughing gas dentists give which a mixture of oxygen and nitrous oxide), the placebo (a mixture of oxygen and nitrogen, which is the two main gases in the air we breathe), and placebo-controlled crossover trial (which involved both laughing gas and placebo). The day after the survey they examined the patients with sadness, guilt, anxiety, insomnia, and suicidal thoughts. Once the results were finished we found out that one-thirds of the patients had made an improvement in their symptoms after receiving the treatment placebo and two-thirds improved after taking the nitrous oxide (laughing gas treatment). Charles R. Conway (a professor of psychiatry) said the following about the study, "When they received nitrous oxide, many of the patients reported a rapid and significant improvement. Although some patients also reported feeling better after breathing the placebo gas, it was clear that the overall pattern observed was that nitrous oxide improved depression above and beyond the placebo."

“Authorities release 911 calls in deadly Maryland plane crash”
My article is about how a private plane crashed into a house and killed a total of six people. In Gaithersburg, Maryland, many 911 calls were made to the local police department of a plane that crashed into a house, and both were on fire. There were three people on board the plane, and two sons and their mother inside the house. They all died due to the crash, and the fire. But what is said, that the jet’s fuselage crashed into the front lawn of the home, which was heavily damaged by fire, and investigators believe one of it’s wings, which had fuel inside, sheared off and tore through the front of the home. The mother was found on top of her two sons, trying to protect them from the smoldering smoke due to the crash, and the other three victims had died due to impact. I find this very disheartening, because a mother did everything she could to save herself and her sons, but what she did, wasn’t enough to save any of them. Hopefully, closure will soon be brought to all families, and peace is settled.
I totally agree with you that this mother did anything she could to save her children. Its very saddening that bad things that happen to good people like this mother. But a lot of things happen for a reason and this reason I'm not sure but hopefully this family soon finds closure and is able to be happy one day.
DeleteSomewhere in Asia there is a big debate going on if a girl named, Sabina Altynbekova, age 18 is allowed to play volleyball. Now the reason to this is some members of her team are saying that she is too beautiful and distracts the members of the team and the viewers. She honestly isn’t that beautiful, she is naturally pretty but not to the point to where this should cause an issue. There are many other women who play this sport who really does distract people from the game but either way it shouldn’t matter how they look, its how they perform and how they act to the other team members. It’s almost like saying a person is to beautiful to drive a car because it distracts people from driving and following the law. They can’t help the fact that they have to go somewhere, almost like volleyball. They can’t help that they love to play volleyball and that there physical appearance is too much for people to pay attention to the game. True fans of volleyball would look past that and keep their attention to the game instead.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, just because of the way somebody looks does not mean that you should be distracted by them through a game.
DeleteNobody should be stopped from doing what he or she loves because of his or her appearance whether they are attractive or not. It is discrimination to not let her play because of her looks; it’s just like not letting someone play because of their race. If people are really into the sport they shouldn’t be easily distracted. If I were the girl I would take my talent to another team that would judge me on how I play not on how I look.
DeleteIn Miami, inmate Ernest Williams, in prison on a 41-month drug sentence, had long stopped asking his family to come see him at the Federal Detention Center Miami. The visits, left him too sad and hurt, and reminded him of his lost freedom. On a recent Tuesday, Ernest Williams moved beyond all emptiness and guilt, trading his khaki jumpsuit for a light gray suit, lavender print tie and black shoes. To dance with his 9-year-old twin girls and 13-year-old daughter for a few precious moments, at the detention center, a high-rise administrative facility. “I haven’t seen my girls in months, I could not believe how much they have grown,” said Ernest who is 37, and was convicted of intent to sell crack cocaine. “I was so happy to see them but so sad that I will not be able to leave with them. I am here instead of being outside with my family because of the choices I made.” The bureau hosted its inaugural Daddy-Daughter Dance to create an enduring memory. One that can carry inmates to the outside world with a different perspective, and give daughters the hope that there will be more moments like such. It is part of the bureau’s broader re-entry program. Which reaches out to the children and families of offenders and strengthens their bonds, critical for transitioning at home.

ReplyDeleteThe U.S. Navy says its new laser weapon works and it will use it if it has to. The Office of Naval Research reported Wednesday that its laser weapons system dubbed LaWS had performed flawlessly in tests aboard the amphibious transport dock USS Ponce in the Arabian Gulf from September to November. "Laser weapons are powerful, affordable and will play a vital role in the future of naval combat operations," Rear Adm. Matthew L. Klunder, chief of naval research, said in a statement. "We ran this particular weapon, a prototype, through some extremely tough paces, and it locked on and destroyed the targets we designated with near-instantaneous lethality. "Klunder said the laser performed so well that the commander of the Ponce is now authorized to use it in defense of the vessel, according to a report from the U.S. Naval Institute. "The captain of that ship has all of the authorities necessary if there was a threat inbound to that ship to protect our sailors and Marines we would defend that ship with that laser system," Klunder is quoted as saying in a USNI report. The laser could be used to stop threats ranging from drones and helicopters to small patrol boats, Klunder said, according to the USNI report.
ReplyDeleteThe article that I read was about how the Atacama Large Millimeter/sub-millimeter Array (ALMA) observation, astronomers led by Shigehisa Takakuwa, Associate Research Fellow at the Institute of Astronomy and Astrophysics, Academia Sinica (ASIAA), Taiwan, found spiral arms of molecular gas and dust around the “baby twin” stars, binary protostars. Gas motions to supply materials to the twin were also identified. These observational results unveil, for the first time, the mechanism of the birth and growth of binary stars, which are ubiquitous throughout the universe. The study was published on November 20 in The Astrophysical Journal. Stars form in interstellar clouds of molecular gas and dust. Previous studies of star formation primarily focused on formation of stars like the Sun, and a standard picture of single star formation has been established. According to the standard picture, a dense gas condensation in an interstellar cloud first collapses gravitationally, and forms a single protostar at the center. In fact, previous observations have found such collapsing gas motions to feed materials toward the central protostars. Compared to single star formation, our understanding of binary star formation has been limited. However, more than half of stars with a mass similar to that of the Sun are known to be binaries, and it is thus crucial to unveil the physical mechanism of binary formation observationally to obtain more comprehensive understanding of star formation. Theoretically, a disk surrounding the "baby twin" stars is considered to feed materials to the central baby twin stars and grow them. While recent observations have found such disks surrounding the baby-twin stars, named "circumbinary disks," those observations could not image the structures and gas motions of the disks to feed materials to the binary, because of the insufficient imaging resolution and sensitivity.
ReplyDeleteObservations with ALMA:
To understand these newly identified features, the research team constructed a theoretical model of binary formation in L1551 NE using the supercomputer, "ATERUI" at the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ) [2]. The southern U-shaped feature and northern emission protrusions observed with ALMA can be reproduced with a pair of spiral arms stemming from each baby twin. The research team also investigated the observed gas motion as seen in the carbon monoxide molecular emission, and identified faster rotating motions in the spiral arms and slower rotating motions in the inter-arm regions. The inter-arm regions also exhibit a falling gas motion toward the central baby twin stars, namely, the ongoing feeding process of the materials to the baby twin stars. These results show that the baby twin stars "shake" the surrounding circumbinary disk and induce the falling gas motion to feed the materials to the baby twin. "Our high-resolution ALMA observation has unveiled live images of the growth of the baby twins for the first time," said Takakuwa. Tomoaki Matsumoto, a professor at Hosei University, who constructed the theoretical model with the supercomputer, said, "Our ALMA observation has revealed gas feeding to the baby twin stars from the surrounding disk. Our ALMA results match with our theoretical prediction remarkably accurately" [3]. Kazuya Saigo, co-principal investigator along with Takakuwa, explained, "We succeeded in unveiling structures and motions in the circumbinary disk with such a high accuracy, because of the high imaging resolution and sensitivity of ALMA. In this ALMA era, high-resolution ALMA observations coupled with thorough numerical simulations will be more and more important. Our research on L1551 NE using ALMA and theoretical modeling using a supercomputer can be regarded as an upcoming research trend."
Shortly before Thanksgiving a 16 year old boy was making his way to Orlando with his family for a Thanksgiving trip to Disney World when he fell asleep behind the wheel killing five of the eight occupants in the car including his parents and three siblings. When I read this article I was greatly affected by it. This boy has to live with the fact that he killed five of his family members. Accidents like this happen all the time, but I would hope that this gives reason for tightening the restrictions for new drivers. It was too late for the boy to be driving on the interstate. The situation could have been avoided if there were tighter driving restrictions. The teen isn’t being charged as he has been punished enough the past few weeks. Even though I don’t know the family my heart is with them in this time of mourning. I truly hope this tragic accident will lead to tighter restrictions for new drivers. Although people will hate new restrictions it will be worth it in the end if it stops accidents like this from happening again, no 16 year old should have to deal with the guilt of killing his or her family.

DeleteI believe everyone makes mistakes. Also I believe he should have gotten some sleep, if he knew he was going to be driving. His parents should have began driving for him if they knew he was tired. I'm not pointing fingers, but that would have been a smarter and safer move. If he could drive, there would be no to late time for him to be on an interstate. My heart goes out to the family and 8 occupants.
In a recent study, researchers observed what 337 kids ate for lunch at a dozen schools in Houston. They published their findings in the journal JAMA Pediatrics. They found that the typical home-packed lunch contained far fewer vegetables, fruit, meat (or meat alternatives) and whole grains than federal nutrition standards advise. Home-packed lunches also included too much salt, soda and dessert.
ReplyDeleteSince 2012, schools that participate in the National School Lunch Program have had to serve meals that meet the standards set down in the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. There is no such requirement for home packed lunches.
Overall, home-packed lunches were missing a lot of essential nutrition. What did they have instead? Among elementary school students, they included lots of sugary drinks, plenty of snack chips and more often than not, a serving of dessert. However, sugary drinks, chips and dessert are not served in cafeterias that follow the National School Lunch Program guidelines.
Researchers not only looked at what lunches included, but also considered how much of their lunches the students actually ate. Unsurprisingly, dessert was the most popular item in the middle school lunch bags. The researchers found that nearly every single one of packed desserts being eaten. The figure was higher than 100 percent because some kids got extra dessert from their friends or purchased dessert at the school snack bar. Chips were the second most popular item in packed lunches, with almost all of those packed being eaten.
Unlike dessert and chips, students left much of their home-packed fruit and veggies uneaten.
Researchers also found that the sodium in home-packed lunches was higher than federal guidelines recommend. Cafeteria lunches sold in elementary schools can’t contain more than 640 milligrams (mg) of sodium. Meals that elementary school students brought from home contained 1,110 mg, but only on average. Cafeteria lunches sold in middle schools can have up to 710 mg of sodium, but lunches brought from home by middle schoolers had around 1,003 mg of sodium.
The study contained a lot of bad news about home-packed lunches. There were also some positives, however.
Now, they are turning there attention to home packed lunches. However, I’m not sure what they plan to do, as they can’t legally set rules on what students’ parents pack. To do so would infringe on a persons rights, as set fourth in the constitution.
The 2015 Corvette Zo6 is a true super car. It is a rear transaxle with a 6.2-liter v8 that is making over 600-horse power to the rear wheels. In the new zo6 model they have gone back to the Lt based motor instead of the old 7.0-liter Ls7. The naturally aspirated Ls7 motor pushed out 505-horse power. For the new Zo6 Chevrolet is using a supercharged Lt4 engine. The Lt4 will use a smaller supercharger then the Ls9 in the corvette Zr1. In the new model Zo6 Chevy is using forged pistons, custom-machined steel connecting rods; and titanium intake valves fitted to cylinder heads that are rotocast of A356T6 aluminum for greater strength and heat resistance. It also has shocks that are filled with magnetorheological fluid. It is also fitted with carbon ceramic brakes that are nearly as large as the brakes on the million-dollar Bugatti Veyron 16.4. The old Zr1 and the new Zo6 are striking in similarities. So Chevy is thinking about calling it the Zro6. The new aluminum frame is the first model with a removable roof panel. The Zo6 will be slightly heavier then the old Z06 model. But the increased power will also increase the power to weight ratio. In conclusion the 2015 Zo6 will be a improvement to the corvette line.

Pakistani special troops, were in a shootout for nearly five hours in the school. All seven terrorist were killed. It is unfortunately quite plausible that the family member of Taliban militants have been killed during the group's years-long conflict with the Pakistani military. The Pakistani military's use of bombings and artillery strikes virtually guarantee civilian casualties.
ReplyDelete“We want them to feel our pain.” The Taliban spokesman said. 100s of people were rushed to the local hospital, dead and alive. As parents waited to see the list of students and staff that were either killed or injured.
I am writing about Adrian Peterson today and about how I think it is dumb that he is being suspended from the NFL for reportedly “abusing his son”. What makes me mad about this is that Ray Rice is clear to join and play in the NFL again after he beat his wife but Adrian Peterson cant for disciplining his son. He should be allowed to discipline his son and not have his job taken from him and be cut from his sponsors. What Ray Rice did was a lot worse while all Adrian was doing was disciplining his son. They ruled him to go without pay for all of the season all the way up to April 15th. I don’t get how that happens to him but a player that beat his wife and hit her on a camera was out for a few weeks and is ready to play and be paid again. It makes no sense to me.
ReplyDeleteI believe that this assignment is dumb. We are not learning anything. We are all just copy and pasting. No one is going to sit here to actually watch the news or read the news paper and comment on this blog. Its pointless. About 20% of your students are the only ones that are actually doing this assignment. I would rather do an assignment that makes me learn something rather then something I'm going to dread having to do every few weeks. There is no organization in this assigment either. Some of us never know when these blog assignments are due. Like this one is not said to be due till January but you have me doing this now instead of my other more important work from my other teachers that are due now. So if your okay with copy and pasting then this assignment should be easy for you but i would like to take my time and learn something thats going to help me in the real world, because you can't copy and paste your way through this world
ReplyDeleteI believe the current event is a easy A. All it requires is for us too read. We have to read anyways, so why not do it for a grade. I think current events are put in, for an extra grade. Its not like we have to write about a given topic. That’s the better part about doing the current event. We can talk about anything in the world we want to. The only thing that is given is a word limit for comments.

ReplyDeleteI just read that scientists have discovered a potentially powerful antibiotic that can kill some of the most dangerous "superbugs" This antibiotic can possible get rid of serious infections that are resistant to standard medications.
Superbugs, which can't be killed by regular antibiotics and are a growing threat to public health, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, sickening 2 million Americans a year and killing 23,000. Researchers and Scientist have warned that the world is at risk of entering a "post-antibiotic" era in which patients could die from formerly treatable infections and even routine surgeries could become risky.
Developing new antibiotics has been a challenge, partly for financial reasons. Finding and testing antibiotics can take a decade and more than $1 billion. Many pharmaceutical companies have shied away from this research because of the huge cost and financial risk.
Finding new antibiotics has also been scientifically difficult.
November 16 there were thousands of protesters in Mexico city setting fires and blocking highways. The reason behind it is that 43 college students from iguala were abducted and killed after fighting with the police on September 26. Out of the bodies of the students 28 of them were burned. 22 police officers were arrested after the incident with the students. The officers that were arrested were also members of a local gang, according to the prosecutors. I believe that if the officers were arrested there should not be a protest. It seems that by arresting the officers the problem was already solved.
ReplyDeleteThat's awful i hope those police officers are put away for a long time. Just because you have a fight with some someone doesn't give them the right to burn or kill someone, and even so they were corrupted police officers which is completely inappropriate and wrong. I Think that the protest isn't necessary but still its time for change.
DeleteThis is terrible. Things like this should be prevented. Protesting will only make the situation worst. By protesting they are destroying their own neighborhood and town. If they were going to protest there shouldn't have been any violence involved.
DeleteMy current event is going to be about a attack that happened in Jerusalem on November 18, Two Palestinians, armed with knives, meat cleavers, and a handgun, enter a synagogue in Jerusalem during morning prayers and killed five people. Four of the people killed are rabbis; the other is a police officer who died hours after the incident. The two attackers are shot and killed by police. It is the deadliest assault that has occurred in Jerusalem since eight students were killed during a Jewish seminar in March 2008. The incident increases tension in Israel, which is already on high alert after a recent rise in religious violence. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas condemns the attack. In a televised address, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says that Abbas' condemnation isn't enough.
ReplyDeleteThis week a Weymouth woman gave birth to a healthy baby girl, and she didn’t know she was pregnant until she went into labor. After feeling the pain, Kropas rushed to South Shore Hospital in South Weymouth. “Tuesday morning I woke up and I had crazy lower back pain,” Katie Kropas told WBZ-TV. Dr. Kim Dever is chair of the Obstetrics and Gynecology at South Shore Hospital. She said it is not the only time the hospital has seen a similar birth.“We do about 3,500 births a year, and we probably see this a few times a year,” said Dever. It happens when a woman is overweight or has irregular periods, and she may not feel much baby movement because of where the placenta is positioned, the doctor said.
ReplyDelete“Very often, especially in your first pregnancy, you’re really not aware of what you’re feeling and we often have women joke and say they’re feeling gas pains or they can attribute it to other natural conditions,” Dever said.
Two standoffs with gunmen are underway. In Paris on Friday one involving the two brothers wanted in the Charlie Hebdo massacre and the other a hostage situation at a kosher grocery store. Police have not said if or how the situations are connected, but both underscored France's days-long nightmare. France ended up killing three of the terrorist. One was suspected in the fatal shooting of a policewoman. French government isn’t finished with the terrorist. They believe this is just the beginning. The government is trying to figure out how to prevent terrorist attacks, in pursuit of the policewoman shooting. Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said, “The nation is relieved tonight.” In addition to the police woman shooting, Four hostages were killed and 15 survived in the standoff between an armed terrorist and police at a Paris kosher grocery store on Friday. U.S. President Barack Obama said he wants the people of France to know that the United States “stands with you today, stands with you tomorrow” after this week’s terror. He told a crowd in Tennessee that “we stand for freedom, hope , dignity of all human beings, (and) that’s what Paris stands for.” The FBI and U.S. Department of Homeland Security released a bulletin to law enforcement.
ReplyDeleteThe article that I will be doing today is about a drug bust. The arrests occurred in Orange County on a Tuesday. Investigators went to high crime areas to arrest street-level criminals. Most of the homes that were raided were on Colombia Street in Parramore. Some of the neighbors witnessed this commotion also. One neighbor told WFTV when they looked out the window they seen a lot of police surrounding and people running everywhere. Three days later WFTV soon was informed that the drug bust was a 18 month drug and gun operation. After the bust there were 82 arrests. Many were thankful for this expressing their neighborhood would be safer. In order to arrest these people police used arrest warrants, search warrants, and undercover drug buys.
ReplyDeleteWoman met with Los Angeles Police detectives for two hours Wednesday morning to detail sayings that comedian Bill Cosby of drugged and sexually abused her in 2008 when she was attending the "Mid-Summer Night's Dream" party at the Playboy Mansion. After the meeting, attorney Spencer Kuvin told reporters outside the LAPD's downtown headquarters that his client had spoken to investigators to seek justice and accountability. Chloe Goins was 18 and a guest at the mansion party when the attack took place, he said. According to Kuvin, she says she was drugged, blacked out and awoke to find herself naked with the naked comedian standing over her. Kuvin said the sayings were a serious matter involving potentially serious allegations of drugging my client and alleged sexual abuse. Kuvin said his client did not immediately go to the police out of shame and embarrassment. Cosby is a powerful figure in the entertainment industry. In all, some two-dozen other women have come forward to accuse Cosby. Of sexual misconduct charges which began to surface a decade ago. This is a very bad look on Bill Cosby. This could trouble his career and everyday life. I hope the saying end up to be true.
ReplyDeleteWell thats just wrong, powerful figure or not that doesn't give Bill Cosby the right to drug or sexually abuse anyone and if there are more than a dozen women claiming the same thing about this man then it must be true.

ReplyDeleteHouse republicans want Congress’s nine-digit disability system that will affect many people in the following presidential campaign. A couple of rules will be enforced in the House near the end of 2016. Large programs obtained information about social security number from the congress. This new rule that Tuesday enforced raises taxes. This complex plan also enhances social security’s finances. Finding votes is difficult because of election year politics. They alternate from one election to another. The retirement fund to prop up the disability program was sponsored by Tom Reed. Lawnmowers invested and contributed their work to proposals to raise the disability of the programs financial investment.
Numerous advocates for adolescent Americans stated that the rule could help support benefit deals, because House Republicans disliked the rule of raising taxes. J. David Cox stated that “this lousy attempt to stealthily sneak the rule, so that it will ensure dismal deals for secretaries of the Social Security disability function”. Eliminating the options of money from the retirement fund would be a fatal flaw. Recently, Congress was unable to send bills, with deadlines in front of them. New House rules will govern the chamber of legislative laws for a couple of years.
