  2. Orcas are learning how to speak dolphin.

Orcas, as we know, are very intelligent marine mammals; it has been proven that they also communicate through language, just like humans. “ It’s known that orcas communicate in so-called dialects, complex vocalizations comprised of clicks, whistles and pulsed calls”. Research has shown, orcas that live in the same pod use the same sounds, like how people use different languages in different parts of the world. Orcas that have been seen socializing with bottlenose dolphins are starting to make the same clicking sounds, rather than long calls. All orcas are not born knowing there dialect, just like humans, they must learn. Many different animals, including bats, birds, whales and dolphins have also show vocal learning.
It has been very difficult to study this species due to a decline in there population. A decline in the whales population is due to a decline in food, disturbances from humans and exposer to high levels of toxins.

    4. This is a good article about the orcas. Some orcas can and can't communicate with each other. I'm not very fond of orcas, but it's good it see each other communicating through whistles. Each animal has their own way of learning how to speak with each other. Orcas are good at swimming and other kinds of things. Taking care of orcas is a tough responsibility. You have to make sure it's fed constantly, pet it, and make sure it feels like it's at home.

  3. My blog today is about the Pakistan school attack today. A Taliban school was invaded my Taliban gunmen on a peaceful day and started firing in random directions, the death toll was 145 and most of them no older than 16. During this predicament the gunmen were yelling, “God is great” while running through the school.

There were military soldiers at the school, also devastated parents, injured students, medical help; the sight was unbearable. I could imagine the horror the students and school staff went through, some of them had their own stories to tell like 14-year-old student Ahmed Faraz, his story was that he was inside the school auditorium when 5 gunmen started firing, he got shot on the shoulder and hid behind the benches, but he heard one of the gunmen saying that there are many students behind the benches and that they should kill them, with luck the gunmen went to another direction and he leaped to the chance of escape but fell down out the exit.

Luckily the 7 militants that were attacking the school are now dead, it is not determined if they were shot or their explosives got detonated. There were a lot of injured people (mostly children), and to think this whole thing started in a late morning when a car exploded behind the school to divert the guards’ attention so that was the gunmen’s chance to start shooting inside, authorities said that their goal was to not take captives, only to kill. A pointless and ignorant goal if you ask me, I can’t even explain how mad at what happened right now.

I only hope that the people who are still alive from their injuries would get well soon. I feel bad for the people who lost their loved ones during this horror; many of them sobbing, like Tahir Ali a father who lost his 14-year-old son, Abdullah. “My son was my dream,” Ali said to The Associated Press. “My dream has been killed.” I hope that this kind of attack will not happen again; there are no words to express how horrible I feel for this tragedy.

This kind of despair-inducing tragedy will not be forgiven; killing dozens of innocent people for the sake of killing is really pointless. But with any despair that comes in any situation, hope is always there to take it all away, hope will prevail in the end, hope is what makes us stand together, hope will always be what makes a country stand strong.

    1. I also wrote about this. It is horrible that this happened just because of disagreements. There was no point in murdering children or murdering at all. They think it will make us sad and weak, but its really just making us go after them ever worse.

    2. This is a sad story , the school should now have to be more protected because of the attacks the familys are probably very upset and the kids are probably so scared and should have not have to go through this pain and scared to go to school , no one should start a shoot up over an argument where they don’t get along , I think the people who shot up the school deserve to have died , they don’t deserve to live when they take others lifes

    3. This article was very interesting and depressing. It is messed up to see military soldiers running down the hallways with guns. Slaughtering innocent people is messed up. Using a diversion just to kill people isn't right. I can't even believe that these military soldiers love seeing innocent children dead. I don't even see why there is a reason to kill children in a school building. It's sad and frightening at the same time because most of these people aren't going to make it. In my defense, I think that something should be done to stop this chaos.

    4. It's sad to hear about such sick things like this going on in the world. Especially to kids who are defenseless and innocent. It's really disturbing to me. The students and staff had to witness such a horrific event.

  4. The article I read this week was from NewsELA concerning musicians gigging across the nation on a super fast Internet. You can find the story here: https://newsela.com/articles/music-lightspeed/id/6293/

This is intriguing to me on two fronts: One, who wouldn’t love faster Internet? The U.S. has some of the slowest Internet speeds in the developed world; two, as a musician myself, whose friends have moved to far away places, I would love to be able to jam again—in real time—with those people.

According to a study by Ookla, the United States is 31st in the world in terms of Internet speed. Quite frankly, this is unacceptable—we pay almost twice as much for Internet access as the countries that rank ahead of us for speed, but we get less for our money.

I hate to sound like someone who is complaining, but there is serious steam in our nation’s legislator to re-categorize the Internet as a utility rather than a service. Internet access is a wonderful tool for learning, connecting, creating, and helping throughout the world, and fast, affordable Internet should be a priority of any governing body. The issue of “Net Neutrality” is extremely salient here, but it doesn’t deal with the issues raised by the article, so I’ll skive off of discussing that.

Speaking of creativity, the second idea of being able to gig in real time across the country is amazing. I’m reminded of the 2000s band The Postal Service, who sent each other cassettes of their parts through the USPS (hence the name of the band) to put together an entire album. But this process, of course, took a very long time to complete, considering they had to wait on the “snail mail” process. Imagine the creative possibilities for musicians to play together no matter where they are in the world…Imagine the educative possibilities; the scientific possibilities. We do have technologies available right now, but they are sometimes buggy, laggy, and a slave to poor Internet connections. I’m excited about the future of our technology.

    1. i think we need to find out what everyone else is doing so we can get the fastest internet without being really expensive.

    2. The idea of playing instruments with other people or friends is a very awesome idea. You could make collabs for Youtube, Facebook, etc. And you can practice with friends. I have a good friend who i used to play music with but he moved up North and having faster internet and being able jam again would be pretty awesome. But the question is how much more will it cost to have that fast of internet?

  5. Pakistan militants: Children's massacre was to avenge army strikes

Recently in Islamabad, Pakistan a few men of the Taliban opened fire on the students and staff of school. The Taliban calls it payback for an earlier incident involving their children. There was mainly full of soldier kids. Over 145 people were killed; 132 of those deaths were of children between the ages of 12-16. Students say that the people were saying shoot the kids hiding under the benches. Others talk about how much blood there was and how they all were just piled on top of each other. The Taliban took the situation as an eye for an eye, but the Taliban in Afghanistan felt differently. The Afghanistan Taliban said that the situation was uncalled for and that killing women and children is against their code. They have gone as far to even apologize for what the Pakistan Taliban had done.

This is disgusting. How deranged does a person have to be to shot a child, to look directly into their face and murder them, all because they don’t like us? I feel horrible for the families who have lost. They must have a feeling of hopelessness. How can you go after a group of murderers for justice? How can we attack a group with no remorse? Hopefully something can be done.

It seems that the “big, bad, tuff” Taliban are really good at shooting and killing people who cant fight back. I think the Taliban are terrible people that are scum. These violent terrorists need to be wiped out off the face of the earth.

    2. The Taliban have no sympathy and this story has proven that. How can you attack a school filled with women and children? This act will surely not go unpunished. The children were defenseless and hiding under tables but the Taliban just didn’t care.

  6. Current Event

The story that I read that is based on this current event was how a paralyzed woman who controlled a robotic arm using just her thoughts has taken another step towards restoring her natural movements by controlling the arm with a range of complex hand movements. Thanks to researchers at the University of Pittsburgh, Jan Scheuermann, who has longstanding quadriplegia and has been taking part in the study for over two years, has gone from giving "high fives" to the "thumbs-up" after increasing the maneuverability of the robotic arm from seven dimensions (7D) to 10 dimensions (10D). The extra dimensions come from four hand movements--finger abduction, a scoop, thumb extension and a pinch--and have enabled Jan to pick up, grasp and move a range of objects much more precisely than with the previous 7D control. It is hoped that these latest results, which have been published today, 17 December, in IOP Publishing's Journal of Neural Engineering, can build on previous demonstrations and eventually allow robotic arms to restore natural arm and hand movements in people with upper limb paralysis. After the electrode grids in Jan's brain were connected to a computer, creating a brain-machine interface (BMI), the 96 individual contact points picked up pulses of electricity that were fired between the neurons in Jan's brain. Computer algorithms were used to decode these firing signals and identify the patterns associated with a particular arm movement, such as raising the arm or turning the wrist. By simply thinking of controlling her arm movements, Jan was then able to make the robotic arm reach out to objects, as well as move it in a number of directions and flex and rotate the wrist. It also enabled Jan to "high five" the researchers and feed herself dark chocolate. Two years on from the initial results, the researchers at the University of Pittsburgh have now shown that Jan can successfully maneuver the robotic arm in a further four dimensions through a number of hand movements, allowing for more detailed interaction with objects. The researchers used a virtual reality computer program to calibrate Jan's control over the robotic arm, and discovered that it is crucial to include virtual objects in this training period in order to allow reliable, real-time interaction with objects. Co-author of the study Dr. Jennifer Collinger said: "10D control allowed Jan to interact with objects in different ways, just as people use their hands to pick up objects depending on their shapes and what they intend to do with them. We hope to repeat this level of control with additional participants and to make the system more robust, so that people who might benefit from it will one day be able to use brain-machine interfaces in daily life.

    2. Wow that is an interesting evolution in technology and robotics. A person can have the ability to control a robotic arm with their brain. This procedure can give people who have lost their limbs the freedom to live their lives without the restrictions of a handicap. Even though there may be risks when connecting receptors to the nerves in a person’s brain, people who undergo a successful surgery will gain full control and maneuverability of their robotic limb.

    3. This is an interesting story about robotics. I enjoy the fact on how they use robotics for helping people around the world. Thanks to the vast technology of robotics, it has been a great impact on everybody. The great thing about the robotics is that it can work for everyone, especially for those who have no legs or arms. Anyone can manipulate robotic arms using their brain. Using robotics has good benefits for those with disabled legs. Using the robotic legs or arms , humans without legs or arms can finally walk again.

  7. The article I read was a plead for all the states to legalize marijuana. I personally believe that it should stay illegal. Even if it for medical uses only, people can obviously still get it and they can get it easier. I mean, think abut how easy it is for drug addicts to get pain killers. It can be just as easier if not easier to get weed. I know they need it to help it patients and stuff, but it will give the same effect as happy gas. I don’t see the point in legalizing something that will give the same effect as something that’s already legalized. I watched a video a while back, where someone was interviewing homeless people on the streets of Colorado, about weed. Not only were most of them high but they all had weed in their possession. So instead of the homeless people using the little bit of money that they have on weed, instead of using it for food or even shelter. Slowly but surely its going to end up giving the U.S. lower employment rates and higher rates of homelessness in America.

    2. There are lots of different opinions that people have. I honestly think that it should be legal and someones own choice if they want to smoke weed they can it is their choice. Its not hurting other people if someone else is smoking weed. Thats why it should be legal because it's not doing anything to anyone. And it also helps people for medical uses. So my opinion there is nothing wrong with it.

    3. I think that marijuana should be legalized for patients , people are going to use marijuana illegally no matter what, legal for medical patients or not . Noone has died from the use or marijuana they have only benefited from it , it does not affect people in the way where they are dangerous to the world , you should have your own choice if you want to use marijuana or not , someone could use marijuana and still be successful in life even though they have used marijuana

      Delete
    4. I think that it should be used for medical reasons, if they person is dying and thats their last resort you shouldn't have a say if they live or die. It doesn't affect you in anyway so, why should you care if its legal or not, its not killing you. People use it to get high but for medical reasons they can take out the chemical substance that make the person get high and just use the rest to help their health.

      Delete
    5. I think that people are crazy to even think about legalizing marijuana. Even if it is used for medical purposes marijuana should not be legal anywhere. Think about like this is if someone’s parent can be verified for medical marijuana what’s stopping a teenager from stealing it and abusing it. Anyone caught with or using marijuana should be arrested and sent to jail for a month or two depending one how many times someone has been caught.

      Delete
    6. Honestly I think it should be legalized for the people that really need it. If it where to be legal they would most likely have a age restriction on it and probably tax the crap out of it. Alcohol is legal and there are deaths from it all the time but there is a age limit on that too. So honestly this is tough debate, no matter what we do though people will still buy and use marijuana.

      Delete
    7. I believe that marijuana should be illegal in the U.S. Marijuana shouldn't be legal, even for safety purposes. Marijuana should be illegal because it could kill somebody, and the effects of it are not good. Some effects are laughing gas and brain damage. If caught with marijuana, they should be sent to prison. If marijuana were legal, there would be more deaths in the U.S. economy. If marijuana were illegal, the deaths in the U.S. economy would slowly decrease.

      Delete
    8. I believe that marijuana should remain illegal as well. I think it should stay like that because there are just too many people out there that would take advantage of the drug and use it for non medical reasons. I understand some people needing it or being able to use it but there are too many that would abuse it.

      Delete
    9. I personally think that it should be legalized, because weather its illegal or not people are going to keep smoking. Because people who are selling and growing marijuana are making loads of money. And its not like alcohol or any other hard drug like math etc, you wont die of od on weed. Not unless you smoke like 20 pounds or something crazy like that. So just like with anything else you have to control yourself.

      Delete
    10. I don't think marijuana should be illegal. You can't overdose on marijuana. Plenty of people die from alcohol poisoning, but that is legal, and as far as i know, alcohol cannot be used for medical reasons. Marijuana has been illegal for less than 1% of the time that it’s been in use. If people want to smoke just to get high, then let them. It isn't putting anybody in danger like alcohol does, and i know a large amount of people who have moved to states where marijuana is legal, just because of medical reasons.

  8. Sony Entertainment made a movie called The Invitation where two under cover cops played by James Franco and Seth Rogen , they get an invitation to go to North Korea and than are told to go and kill North Koreas leader. North Korea found out about this movie ad threatened to bomb any movie theatre that played the movie so most movie theaters have taken down the posters for the movie and have announced a delay in playing the movie into further notice. North Korea had a hacker hack into Sonys computers and delete all of the movie that has been already recorded, deleting a lot of data and costing the production money. The actors have canceled any interview or appearance they have had because they have had to much going on , people commenting are stating that sony should put the movie out on the internet for free so it goes around the world , to fight fire with fire. I think North Korea has a right to be upset but should not threaten to bomb anything or hurt anyone they should have not had a hacker delete a very expensive production , if I was the producer of the movie I would put the movie out where ever I could to show that I wanted the movie so I had it produced.

  9. My current event is about the 145 kids that were killed in Northwest Pakistan, more than 100 kids where killed during this attack. I think that that all of these killings in schools are ridiculous, parents send their kids to school thinking its a safe place when all of these things happen, they notice its not. Thats a perfect example of cause and effect, the cause is the school shooting and the effect is having parents worry about their kids forever probably never sending their children to school again.

President Vladimir Putin plans to spend more than 20 trillion rubles ($700 billion) bringing equipment up to date by 2025. Now I think that this is a bad sign not because they are spending a lot like we do but what they plan to do with all that equipment. Recently Russia invaded Ukraine and now they are trying to modernize their military to be stronger. Now I think that Vladimir Putin is trying to bring Russia back to its “former glory” of the Soviet Union. With 700 billion US dollars being spent on their military is going to bring Russia to the 3rd highest defense budget in the world, America being 1st and China being 2nd. 12. Police Departments on alert after cop killings

A police officer in New York City viewed a site where people are remembered for their great efforts that they accomplished in their life. Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos were slaughtered in the Brooklyn site of New York City. Investigators say Ismaaiyl Brinsley ambushed a couple of police investigators near their car in the morning. Before killing himself inside a subway station, he fatally shot them in broad daylight.
Many union and police department agencies around the country warned the higher- ups to avoid inflammatory posts online. Without hesitation, the man ambushed the police investigators and shot them to death. The death of police agents Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu hoisted fears about laws in the country. Police officials investigated twelve threats since the shootings. Police investigators are trying to determine if Brinsley had taken part in any protests over the deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner. Nationwide, police officers are responsible for taking care of these people. Recently, protests have been corrupted after grand juries declined to bill the officers.
The detectives’ president union informed members to work in groups of threes and wear bulletproof vests when roaming the streets at night. A directive alerted police officers not to patrol alone. The chief from the New York City Police Department asked multiple officers to restrict their comments to expressions of depression.

No maybe that particular police men shouldn’t have been killed but honestly with everything that has been going on and around the world with all these killings from police, they had that coming for themselves. These cops are so out of control. They need to be monitored by somebody 24/7 because they do things that are illegal as well and do not get punished for it. It's always the police word before yours they will believe anything they say over our story and most of the time they exaggerate. These killings that’s been going on are ridiculous, cops need to think twice before they make such a big decision, because actions should never go as far as they do. If somebody did not kill another human being and they are no trying to hard a police men they should have take that persons life. Point blank. They wouldn’t like it if that was them or one of their family members. They think their on top of the world and they can do whatever they want but their comes consequences with that because the world doesn’t take killing lightly. So no I don’t feel bad. Its bound to happen.

  13. There are two types of hackers, White-Hat hackers who are ethical and diagnose security flaws. The second kind of hacker is the Black-Hat hackers who commit cyber crimes for financial gain or just to wreck havoc and cause damage on the Internet. They can create cybernetic worms that leave your personal information and passwords vulnerable. Kevin Mitnick was once the most wanted criminal in the world. He had an interest that escaladed into stealing thousands of dollars in corporate secrets. Michael Calce launched cyber attacks that took down major websites such as yahoo, amazon, eBay and CNN. At the time he was also in high school. Jenson James Ancheta was the first ever hacker to create a bot-net a group of hijacked computers the work together for illegal means. In 2004 he spread a worm called the RX-bot across the Internet that gave him control of 500,000 computers including U.S military computers. Gary Mckinnion a Scottish hacker who deleted military weapon logs, critical files, and crashed a network of 2000 computers in a time period of 24 hours. The total cost in damage was $700,000 dollars that he caused to the government. Albert Gonzalez masterminded the larger heist of all time. 14. On December 19 2014 in the NBA on of the biggest trades happened. The Celtics traded there star Point Guard Rajon Rondo and Power Forward Dwight Powell. They traded them exchange for the Dallas Mavericks Brandan Wright, Jameer Nelson and Joe Crowder. The reason why this is so big is because Rondo’s time with the Celtics was so important. He has the team’s records for all time assists. Also lead the team in assists. The reason why this is a lost for the Celtics is because they traded there Star player who is also becoming more of a scorer. This is a big gain for the Dallas Mavericks because they just gained the leagues best passer and ball handler. Now the Dallas Mavericks has a way better chance to make a good playoff run now. The Celtics gained three players that can help them. Jameer Nelson a former Orlando Magic who lead them to the NBA finals in 2010. Brandan Wright, is a scorer at times and a good defender on the ball. This is more of a loss then a gain for the Celtics though. Dallas Mavericks Star power forward Dirk Nowitzki took a pay cut for Rajon Rondo to come to Dallas. Rondo has given the Mavericks a better chance to go to the finals now. With a all star like lineup. The Dallas mavericks starting 5 is now , Rajon Rondo , Monta Ellis , Chandler Parsons, Dirk Nowitzki, Tyson Chandler. With Brandan Wright coming to the mavericks as a rookie he will get a lot of experience. This is a big trade for all of the NBA.

Lettering on the side of each car identifies it as a "self-driving car". The project is currently being led by Google engineer Sebastian Thrun, former director of the Stanford Artificial Intelligence Laboratory and co-inventor of Google Street View. Thrun's team at Stanford created the robotic vehicle Stanley which won the 2005 DARPA Grand Challengeand its US$2 million prize from the United States Department of Defense. The team developing the system consisted of 15 engineers working for Google, including Chris Urmson, Mike Montemerlo, and Anthony Levandowski who had worked on the DARPA Grand and Urban Challenges. First off can I just say I think this is so cool? A car that can drive itself! This means that you don’t need to stay awake for those long trips and drive all through the night just to get somewhere far . Although this super cool, I can see this being a slight problem. People who work in transportation will slowly be replaced by this new technology. People are slowly loosing jobs to machines, and this “driverless” isn’t helping.

    1. I agree, it is very cool but i can see a few problems or imagine things going wrong at the same time. All it takes is one of these self driving cars to have a glitch or something and it could cause casualties. I don't see it being something safe and that should be put on the roads so quick.

      Delete
    2. I do agree that it is cool. I think that I saw a video for it awhile back. I also see the problem of job loss coming with this. A lot of people will want this and yes it will create at least one or two jobs just to manufacture the driverless but when you consider the bigger picture it is scary. When you buy something do you buy it for the quality or because of the price? You buy it for quality. What I'm saying is when the first model of something comes out, the quality of it is amazing because it will last forever. If the driverless has amazing quality and works just as great people in transportation will most likely lose their job permanently.

  17. Authorities are calling the Thursday morning killing of a female police officer in the Paris suburb of Montrouge a terror attack, but have not connected it to Wednesday's slaying of 12 people at the magazine's headquarters. The man who shot the police officer was dressed -- like the Charlie Hebdo attackers -- in all black and was apparently wearing a bulletproof vest.
One person was arrested in that incident, Paris Deputy Mayor Patrick Klugman said, though it's not known if the shooter is still at large.
Nor have they confirmed French media reports that a gas station attendant near Villers-Cotterets in the northern Picardy region of France, told police that he saw the Charlie Hebdo suspects later Thursday morning. The men reportedly threatened the attendant and stole gas and food before heading toward Paris.
Regardless, both scenes were a flurry of police activity Thursday. In Montrouge, south of Paris, about 20 heavily armed police at one point pushed back crowds and surrounded an apartment building.
And in Villers-Cotterets, about 90 kilometers (55 miles) northeast of the capital in the northern French countryside, the gas station was cordoned off with about 30 officers and a forensic truck on the scene. French police in Crepy-en-Valois told CNN that checkpoints were being set up within 20 kilometers, in multiple directions, of this reported sighting.
Still, for all these efforts, neither Cherif Kouachi, 32, and Said Kouachi, 34, are in custody. And that means France's nightmare isn't over.
But the European nation's sense of pride, unity and defiance is just as undeniable.
As Charlie Hebdo writer Patrick Pelloux told CNN affiliate BFMTV, "We can't let them win."

  18. Britain has increased security at ports and border points after the deadly attack in Paris, though British officials say there is no new specific threat to the country. The national threat level is at “severe”, which means that an attack is highly likely. Home Secretary Theresa May said police and border guards had “intensified checks on passengers, vehicles, and on goods coming from France and other parts of Europe.” There is also more security at Paris’ Gare du Nord, where British border officials check passengers heading to London on the Eurostar trains. Theresa May also said the decision to raise the threat level is “related to developments in Syria and Iraq, where terrorist groups are planning attacks against the west.” Britain faces a serious threat from international terrorism and I think that raising the national threat level was necessary.

Recently there was an attack on the French newspaper Charlie Hedbo (located in Paris France) and apparently the attack came after months of unprecedented threats to the news paper company, moments before the attack the publication tweeted out a cartoon at 11:28 a.m. mocking the ISIS leaders new year message, the attack began minutes after the tweet had been sent out from the newspapers official account. The attacking began when they asked a doorman where the Charlie Hedbo office is, and after he answered they killed him. The attackers entered the offices during an editorial meeting, that was where most of the violence occurred 10 people were killed an 11 were injured 5 minutes after the attack had started the attackers returned to the streets and drove away in their car (Citroen C3). Officers are currently searching the town of Villers-Cotterets where the two men robbed a petrol station. The manhunt for the attackers is ongoing and the terror alert in Paris has been raise to the highest level. There was also a knife attack in a police station and car-ramming attacks in Dijon and Nantes, Bertrand Nzohabonayo (French-Burundian extremist) went to the police station in central French town tours on December 20 and stabbed several officers before being shot dead.

Some one had a started videoing the incident right as they stepped out of the car. The thing that the news probably won't concentrate on is the look out. The look out was also firing a weapon after stepping out of the car but did not go inside. I'm not sure if the police know who the look out is but I think if they did know who he was they would find the gun men.

Sony can make any story for a movie that they want. All of the threats need to stop because “The Interview” is only just a movie.

Several people took that seriously and even thought about it as a terriost attack like the tradegy like 9/11. people honestly should never even joke like that. what if the united states decided to strike North Korea first? it would have caused a war.

    3. In the US, we have made a plethora of movies about terrorists, African Americans, and other races and places. None of those people hacked into a big company threatening people’s lives and well-beings. North Korea overreacted, however i believe the US was a little bit immature in the movie. I have seen The Interview and it’s highly disrespectful but there are plenty of movies we have made that are disrespectful to everyone just for comedic pleasure.

    4. I agree North Korea shouldn’t of hacked Sony, but I can understand why they did it. Sony made a movie about killing their leader, but I also think the news made it a bigger deal then it is at least in my opinion. I do think through that since the news did make such a big deal of it, it made more people pay attention to the movie and make them want to see it.

  21. Gunmen have shot dead 12 people at the Paris office of French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo in an apparent militant Islamist attack. Four of the magazine's well-known cartoonists, including its editor, were among those killed, as well as two police officers. A major police operation is under way to find three gunmen who fled by car. President Francois Hollande said there was no doubt it had been a terrorist attack "of exceptional barbarity". It is believed to be the deadliest attack in France since 1961, when right-wingers who wanted to keep Algeria French, bombed a train, which killed 28 people. The masked attackers opened fire with assault rifles in the office and exchanged shots with police in the street outside before escaping by car. They later abandoned the car in Rue de Meaux, northern Paris, where they hijacked a second car. Witnesses said they heard the gunmen shouting "We have avenged the Prophet Muhammad" and "God is Great" in Arabic. The number of attackers was initially reported to be two, but French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve later said security services were hunting three criminals. He also stated that Paris has been placed on the highest alert. Charlie Hebdo editor Stephane Charbonnier, 47, had received death threats in the past and was living under police protection at the time. French media have named the three other cartoonists killed in the attack as Cabu, Tignous and Wolinski, as well as a Charlie Hebdo contributor and French economist, Bernard Maris. The attack took place during the magazine's daily editorial meeting. At least four people were critically wounded in the attack. The satirical magazine has courted controversy in the past with its irreverent take on news and current affairs. It was scolded in November 2011 a day after it published a caricature of the Islamic Prophet Muhammad. The latest tweet on the Charlie Hebdo account was a cartoon of the Islamic State militant group leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. Charlie Hebdo's website, which went offline during the attack, is now showing the single image of "Je suis Charlie- meaning “I am Charlie in English- on a black banner, referring to a hashtag that is trending on Twitter in correspondence with the victims.

On a Friday morning At 6:40 a.m. at the intersection of White View Parkway and Ravenwood Drive a school bus with student inside headed towards buddy taylor middle school was unfortuanately in a car accident in Palm Coast, Florida. Eight people were taken to the hospital that includes five students. Two cars and one large school bus were involved in the incident. The drivers from both cars were taken to the hospital under criticle condition was reported by an officer at the scene. Parents were notified and The florida highway is under investigation and is temporaily blocked off but it will available soon. I would honestly like to know who is responsible for the crash and want that person or people to charged because all of those children and even the people in the cars could have been seriously injured and hurt or even worse they could have been killed. What if the bus could have hit other cars and caused a huge traffic back or even threw a car off the road? The person responsible for the incident has not been revealed but it is under investigation and charges will be pressed when they find the person responsible. The people’s names involved in the crash have not be released.

  25. Today I am writing about the bus that got into a car crash here in Palm Coast last week. I am very angry about this story because what I have heard and seen is that the car that got hit by the bus was actually innocent and they got hit because they got hit from behind and got pushed in front of the bus. What I want to talk about is that people should be more careful when they drive especially old and younger people. This never would have happened if the one driver had been more aware. There were 25 injured in the accident and all three of the drivers were taken to the hospital two of which were released later on in the day on Friday. The innocent driver that got hit by the bus is still in the hospital with critical condition. I feel bad because she had no reason to in that accident and she is in critical condition because of someone else’s mistake. I believe that everyone should just be more aware on the roads and stuff like this would never happen.

They dont think of the consequences and about how their actions can affect others lives dirastically! half of these young kids on the road are not mature at all and that is who should not be allowed on the road.

I’m writing about the fact that this school blocks the dumbest things. I was literally trying to go on yahoo to look for a current event to write about and it was blocked. Its ridiculous. They act like we are 7 years old and don’t know what everything is. They block certain words too. I was trying to do a project the other day FOR school and the website I had to go to was blocked. They take it way too far. They should just block the really bad stuff and let the regular stuff be unblocked. Kids are downloading things now just to get pass the blocks. It shouldn’t come to that. They should just stop being so careful about everything and unblock stuff. I cant even listen to certain music that I want to hear like its so crazy how they care so much about what we see. We already know what everything is. We already know all these ‘bad’ words. We know everything. They think we are lil kids and its getting so old. Its so aggravating when everything is blocked. When I need to update adobe also I cant even do that because you need an administrator password.

  29. The Dangers of Safety

If nothing was to kill you but dying in a car accident you are expected to live 250 years. Most of our fears of dying are vastly overrated. The media promotes our fears because people like to be scared and people like to be worried. Like football players, they like to run into each other really hard instead of running away from the huge players, and its all for entertainment. Robert Cantu is a professor of Neurosurgery and he studies in major hits to the brain. On the field deaths have occurred since 1931 every single year, with the exception of 1990. Which is pretty scary to think about. Last year there were 5 on field deaths, brain injuries being the cause. Which is the same number of people who died around the world by shark attacks. However, no on field deaths have happened in the NFL.

In a hard collision the brain would spin and shake in the skull, brain tissue will be destroyed and a concussion would occur. Modern helmets prevent skull fractures, which is good but doesn’t prevent concussions. Football players use their helmets as initial points of contact when they tackle. As the safety precautions get better, the players get more violent.

In this article it tells you about a guy named Martin Pistorious and how he became seriously ill and the doctors thought to believe it was Cryptococci Meningitis. Not that long after Martin lost the ability to do things like his ability to move, make eye contact and sadly even speak to others. He was in the “vegatable state”. So the doctors told his parents basically just to take him home and let him die. It was hard for his father every day he would get up at 5 in the morning, get him changed and load him in his car and take him to special care. He would stay there all day till his father picked him up, then he would feed him, put him to bed and set his alarm for two hours later so that he could turn Martin over cause he didn’t want him getting bedsores he says. His mother never realized he could even undestand her so the things she said to him like “I hope you die” really made him began believing that no one would ever love him. He said, “You don’t really think about anything. You simply exist. It’s a very dark place to find yourself because, in a sense, you are allowing yourself to vanish.” While going through facebook I found this article and it catched my eye by the title I first thought “this couldn’t be real, someone just made up another fake humor” but after searching about it just shocks me you never really know. For tweleve years he was in the “vegetable” state, he was trapped and couldn’t do anything about it.

I also thought that his father was very brave while asking ISIS to treat his son well, and that he chose his words very carefully. If ISIS captured my son I would be scared out of my mind and I would be scared to ask for him to be a guest. Because if the leader thought that asking for that was wrong that could be the end to the pilot. I don’t know if the Jordanian pilot is a live but I do hope he is a guest and not a prisoner.

I don’t even know how to express this enough, This is the saddest thing to hear. I am so appalled at the fact a parent would leave a 3 yr. old, two 4 year olds, a 9 year old and a 10 year old home alone. Kids at this age cannot do anything for themselves yet. They can’t even reach what’s on top of the kitchen counter! This is absolutely devastating to me. Two of these children died, the 3 year old and one of the 4 year olds. The 10 year old is in critical condition and the 9 year old and other 4 year old is “doing pretty good”. No kid should be saying home alone until ATLEAST 14 or 15. Anything under that age needs to be under parental supervision at all times. I can’t eve believe a parent let this happen. I cant even imagine how they now feel, coming home to see your house burnt down to the ground, finding out you lost two of your kids and possibly more because they are not doing well, all because you made the decision to let them stay alone. Kids are curious, kids do things they shouldn’t do not knowing it’s bad, that is where a parent comes in and teaches them what is ok and what is not ok. At the age all of these kids are at, none of them even know what’s right from wrong yet. This is very, very sad.

I believe the mother should have gotten a baby sitter instead of leaving them alone. She should have known that at 3 years old that her child would be into everything. Now she has lost all her children. I hope she takes this as a valuable lesson. And she uses this as a story to tell and stress it to other mothers who do the same.

They set nearly 90 fires and tore down the Ohio Stadium Goal Post. Police had to use tear gas on crowds and made many arrests that night. Police had to patrol on horses, on foot, and in their cruisers. The rest of the revelers went to celebrate their 42-win against Oregon state at bars. Fans tore down a temporary goal post used for high school games on the south end of the Ohio Stadium field. University police responded to calls all over the campus. There was so much tear gassed used, that it looked like a morning fog. I thought this was pretty stupid, you would think that'd they do something like that when they loose, not when they win.

That’s when the a plow operator who was clearing the parking lot unknowingly pushed over them. Eventually their parents noticed their disappearance and called the police. They searched all over the neighborhood, knocking on doors and asking for help and shovels. Officer Brandon Rola spotted footprints that were disappearing as more snow fell. Then he saw a shovel. He began to dig and called more people over as he did; they uncovered the boys freezing, but safe and sound. The phrase means "I am Charlie" in French. It's a Facebook-ready slogan that has become, for many, an expression of goodwill, for others, a deep philosophical problem.

Not everybody is Charlie, and not everybody wants to be, it turns out.

Last week, the phrase became an instantly and widely embraced pledge of allegiance to the left-leaning satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, where 12 people were massacred by two gunmen in the heart of Paris, probably over the publication's provocative drawings of the Muslim prophet Muhammad.

This finding is alarming because it suggest that soda may be aging us, in ways we are not even aware of, warned Dr. Epel. Researchers have found no link in cell aging when people drink diet sodas and fruit juices, however. Why is school so long why cant we just have 2 quarters 1 to learn and 2nd is for just testing? Also what’s they point of school being so long if we just going to forget most things during summer so why do we do so much to be prepared for the next grade. Diovanni Quinones, yes school is necessary and also if you want to play a sport in college or a university then you have to pass High school, yeah it does get boring or hard, but think of it as a game, if you buy madden 25 and you get so good at it that you eventually get bored of the game, and if it gets too hard then you lose interest in playing the game and get some other game, but what my parents have taught me is that you do the hard work first then you do what you want, and even Mr. De Ceglie said as much in the parent teacher conference I had yesterday.

  45. For my current event I am posting about a social networking app tinder heres an excerpt from the article

“love-seeking man who asked his exes to rate him on Tinder got more than he bargained for – and his amazing story has gone viral online.
Fed up of his search for the perfect girlfriend, Jake Chapman decided to have fun with his profile on the love-match app.
And at 1am, the 26-year-old web engineer from Seattle invited his ex-girlfriends to "write a 1-2 sentence review about me for my Tinder profile and rate me 1-5 stars".
It was a strange strategy – and one that captured the imagination of thousands as he shared his plan on social sharing site Reddit.
Most would predict a car crash finish, or perhaps to be completely ignored.
But he got a reaction few expected - his exes went for it, allowing a now beaming Jake to update his Tinder profile with the line: "Real ex-girlfriends give Jake a **** rating."
For me, this article is interesting because its both humorous and brings up a lot of points about the algorithms they use to match people up using ideas from human matchmakers because robots made the algorithms. In our society tinder, hot or not, and many other dating sites.

  47. “We're used to seeing manufacturer tags that read "Made in the USA," "Made in Taiwan" or "Made in..." just about anywhere on the globe. But this week, for the first time, an item can read "Made in Space." The International Space Station's 3-D printer created the first object to be made in orbit on Tuesday. The U.S. space agency released a picture of astronaut Barry "Butch" Wilmore holding the newly printed piece, a white printer part emblazoned with the words "Made in Space" and "NASA." It's not just a novelty. "There are many challenges about living and working in space, including when a part or a tool is broken or simply is not working correctly, and the spare part is 200 miles away, here on the surface of the Earth," said Bill Hubscher of NASA's ISS Program Science Office at Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, in a video posted on NASA.gov. "Explorers traveling to Mars or to asteroids will face these same challenges," but they won't be able to get goods from a resupply ship, he said.” I think this is a huge step for science in general. Being able to make objects in space from blueprints made on Earth could lead to many new developments in science.

  48. it is a tremendous tragedy for parents to have to go through losing their sons in schools shooting like Liana P said " parents now have to worry where their kids go to school". The school shootings in America shocked a lot people because no one was going to guess that a random lunatic was going to kill innocent kids, in part i think it is in the games they play for example: in GTA V the main character steals vehicles, murders people, and sometimes is in a full out shooting with the police.

  49. university student charged with bestiality has admitted having sex with a sheep on campus and his excuse was that he was "stressed". The 23-year-old, who has not been named, told police he had gone to the university's barn after a night of heavy drinking because he was under pressure with a major midterm exam in the near future. He claimed his cruel plan was to beat up some cows in the strange hope to let off steam but was found by police officers lying on top of the sheep with his underpants down. The fifth-year computer engineering student's plans were overheard by a classmate at Fresno State University, in California, who reported the upcoming trouble to the authorities. Another student, a female who lived in a dormitory room near the 'Sheep Unit', heard strange noises coming from the barn at around 3.30am before police found the suspect having intercourse with one of the ewes last Tuesday. Student Marisa Burkdoll reportedly told ABC7 Los Angeles news channel: "It's just kind of disgusting and revolting and personally makes me angry, I mean why would you do that?". Vets are now keeping a close eye on the sheep at the farm after the disturbing incident. The student was charged with sexual assault of an animal but has since been released from jail, according to SFGate. Californian law states that “any person who sexually assaults any animal protected by Section 597f for the purpose of arousing or gratifying the sexual desire of the person is guilty of a misdemeanor.”
